The Quelm Stone

The Quelm Stone submitted by wiztwas on 29th Aug 2004. Located in North Bracknell on Harvest Ride (the northern distributor road). To find it follow Harvest Ride until you find the Quelm Park Roundabout, the Car Park is about 50 Meters to the East. The Stone is only 50 metres from the carpark and a few metres from a good path, even some one wit a wheelchair could get near enough to see it. This should be a popular destination, but I can find nothing written about it, I have contacted the rangers to see if they know any more. The write up on the ...

Merry Maidens (Circle)

Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.

Venta Icenorum submitted by Flickr on 16th Sep 2020. Caistor Roman Town - Venta Icenorum - aerial Yesterday I toured the Roman, Iron Age and medieval forts/mounds etc of Norfolk. I'd hoped that the very dry conditions would reveal the normally hidden archaeological remains. Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone)

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone) submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Jan 2006. The large re-used Bronze Age standing stone next to the road in the village. Once it was one of several stones here; now it's the only standing stone in the village. If the archaeological database is interpreted correctly, the schoolhouse behind had a mound where the stone was formerly situated - before the school house was constructed. Parking around the bend as seen, ideal for visiting the village.

Ysbyty Cynfyn Stone Circle

Ysbyty Cynfyn Stone Circle submitted by Johnny on 10th Oct 2001. Ysbyty Cynfyn "Stone Circle" (SN 752 791) This readily accessible site is situated alongside the A4120 running south from Ponterwyd towards Devil's Bridge. The circle is not marked as an antiquity on recent OS maps but the church itself is easily found. Despite recent dissenting opinion, it has generally been accepted that this is an example of the early Christian Church adopting an ancient site, in this case an embanked Bronze Age stone circle, presumably in an attempt to "des...

Kinnerton

Kinnerton submitted by TheWhiteRider on 4th Jul 2005. We could only find one of the Kinerton Standing Stones. This one, just visible in the long grass is right next to a footpath. The other, according to the map, is just a little way down the road, but appears to be on private land and is hidden by a high hedge and other foliage. A visit during the Winter months may offer a glimpse of it.
