Log Text: Used the Megalithic Portal app to find the standing stone. I don't think we would have found it otherwise. The stone had obviously fallen at some stage and had been re-erected

Graig Llwyn Iron Age Fort submitted by michmax on 8th May 2017. Possible entrance to the fort??

Log Text: We came from the Dutch garden centre end of Graig Llwyn road and parked the car in sharp bend by a field gate. We walked a short distance down the lane and there was an overgrown stile leading onto the hillfort on the right. The ramparts are visible and there are fantastic views over Cardiff, but there are stables right by the fort, and it looks like they are partially built on the site.

Log Text: There were lots of plants growing around the burial chamber so only the capstone was visible. It's probably best to visit the site in winter to have a better view.

Great Oak Stone submitted by cerrig on 8th May 2012. This is the view from the South East, on a bearing of approx. 300 degrees North West, along the very flat and dead vertical "smiley"faced Northern flank. If someone hadn't thoughtfully planted a tree in the way you would be able to see that this stone is aligned on the top of Myarth hill (not the summit), beyond this the line goes to Bwllch standing stone, out of site from here. Spookily, if you followed the line in the opposite direction it goes directly through the house I used to live in , in...

Llwyn-y-Fedwen Standing Stone submitted by Johnny on 3rd Jul 2002. Llwyn-y-Fedwen Standing Stone, Powys (SO 157 204):
Marked on maps as standing stone but situated in private farmland. Also known as the Gliffaes stone, at 4.27m this is one of the tallest bronze age standing stones in Wales.

Log Text: The standing stone is extremely impressive. It is enormous and stands majestically in a field close to the river. The farmer was very happy to let me onto his land to view the stone.

Nevern Churchyard Cross submitted by vicky on 10th Dec 2003. The Nevern Great Cross, often described as ‘one of the most perfect specimens of its kind’. It stands in the churchyard at Nevern in Pembrokeshire, not far from the famous tomb of Pentre Ifan. It is believed to date to the 10th or 11th century. Close by is an avenue of ancient yew trees, one of which is said to bleed.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Would like to visit

Maen Llia submitted by cerrig on 23rd Jun 2015. A real life manifestation of the stone 'going down to the stream for a drink' - or its shadow at least! Not quite the solstice , a couple of days late . Kite aerial photo of the sunset shadow , and Maen Llia's new enclosure . No expense was wasted on the planning or erecting , a very frugal venture .

Date Added: 2nd Dec 2016
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Wales (South Glamorgan)
Visited: Would like to visit

Carreg Siglio submitted by sem on 31st Dec 2005. This site bears a striking resemblence to William Stukely's engraving of Avebury, comprising a circle with two "horns" leading from it.
The rocking stone was used as a pulpit by Dr William Price to preach his own brand of Druidism. He later found fame when charged with heresy for attempting to cremate his son Iesi Grist (Jesus Christ) in a tin of paraffin.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Would like to visit

Maen Madoc submitted by Johnny on 21st Sep 2001. Maen Madoc Inscribed Stone: (Powys, SN 918 157)
This imposing inscribed stone, almost 2.7 metres in height, stands high on the moors alongside the Roman road, Sarn Helen. The Latin inscription, "DERVACUS FILIUS JUSTI IC JACIT", now difficult to read, translates as "stone of Dervacus, son of Justus. He lies here". Despite its adoption as a Roman memorial stone, it is possible that Maen Madoc had a much more ancient origin and may have been erected in Bronze Age times.
