Log Text: Torhousekie Farm Cairn has survived in better condition than the E cairns which have been erased from the landscape. The overall footprint of the cairn is intact and there are original stones scattered on the centre of the low mound.
It is possible to park in a gateway on the B733 at NX 3790 5669. Head N across the field for c. 130 yards to a gate in the dry stane dyke. Torhousekie Farm Cairn is c. 70 yards SW of here parallel to the dry stane dyke. My route is viewable on Torhouse Farm Cairn.

Log Text: Given its chequered history I was unsure about visiting Strichen House Stone Circle. I was pleasantly surprised by the gravitas of this small stone circle.

Ava, an abbreviation of Achavanich, the area where she was originally discovered in 1987 in a rare rock-cut tomb in the county of Caithness, was originally presented with a mane of red waves and blue eyes. The team behind Ava’s first coming out have issued a retraction of sorts in the form of an updated facial reconstruction—new DNA analysis shows that Ava had straight black hair, brown eyes and that her family were relatively recent migrants to Great Britain when she died.

Log Text: It is easy to park in the Church Car Park on the W end of Garrabost. Walk S up the narrow road to a dead end. A path from here heads SE into moorland leading to an impressive triangular standing stone on a mound. The path continues through rough moorland to Cnoc Nan Dursainean Chambered Cairn. I have posted directions on the main page.

Log Text: I have an unfortunate tendacy to visit sites off the beaten track. I always regret it when squelching through bogs but I never learn my lesson. The unspectacular Clach Stein (Lower Bayble) recumbent stone was an example of this behaviour. You have been warned!

Log Text: A walk into open moorland is required to visit Cnoc Nan Dursainean Cairn. It is possible to combine this with a visit to Clach Glas Standing Stone which is signposted off the A866. Directions are posted on the main page.

Log Text: Druim Dubh Stone Circle is located in a peat bog c. 75 yards NW of the ruined Halfway Garage on the A859, c. 0.2 mile WSW of the B897 Grimshader junction. The SW and NW arcs are defined by recumbent stones exposed by peat cutting.

Log Text: When I visited Clach Stei Lin Stone Circle I was not aware of Canmore's classification of the site. I assumed it was a single standing stone and viewed it accordingly. If you visit be sure to make a careful search of stones to the S of the standing stone.

Log Text: For some unknown reason I prefer the simplicity of a small stone circle round a cairn to the complex arrangement of stones at Callanish I. Additionally, there is a greater satisfaction in a solitary visit to Callanish IV.
