No remains of the supposed porthole entrance can be seen, its now buried below ground level after the hillslide.

Log Text: The burial chambers have been artfully placed in the rectory garden in Avening, however, in principle I do not agree with people removing parts of an ancient monument for their own gratification. The original site is devalued and the new site is questionable at best.

Log Text: Crickley Hill Enclosure is a large space that requires imagination to interpret the remains. The most impressive feature is the Iron Age Rampart at the entrance to the Enclosure.

huge tractors across the fields. S(he) has been driving right through
the rows (perpendicular to them) along several tracks. I saw evidence of
at least 3 stones that had been dislodged and pushed aside by the wheels
of the tractor. I don't know if there is a procedure for reporting such

Log Text: The small stones which largely make up Burford Down Stone Row are not visually impressive but the length of the stone row is extensive. It was interesting to investigate gaps in the row for buried stones.

Log Text: Burford Down Cairn Circle is partially hidden by gorse but the two upright kerb stones identified it as an ancient site. In the middle of the cairn there is an open chamber with one lining stone remaining.

Log Text: Hound Tor Kerb Cairn is easily visited at the foot of Hound Tor. The kerb cairn has a continuous kerb from N Arc to S Arc. The central cist has been exposed. The interior of the cairn has been entirely robbed of stones except for S & W Cist Stones.

Log Text: Hound Tor Medieval Village lies SE of Hound Tor. The footprints of the buildings are well preserved however the layout is somewhat confusing. There are four longhouses surrounded by ancillary houses and barns.

Log Text: It is always disappointing to realise that practical considerations take precedence over the sanctity of an ancient site. Somebody thought it was easier to vandalise a stone circle rather than alter the course of a field boundary. At least the Sherberton Stone Circle has survived in its somewhat ruined state.

He says: "The menhir, 3.1 m high, still stands in its original position, 42 m almost due south from the centre of the stone circle. Merrivale Second Menhir and Cairn submitted by Anne T on 9th Jul 2019. To show the relationship of these monuments with the tall Merrivale Menhir, the recumbent granite pillar is in the foreground, with its pit immediately behind it; the cairn is visible as a low mound behind it (just right of centre) The tall menhir is in the background. The cairn is 5.5m from the menhirs and the granite slab 2m from the cairn. Row 4 runs from the centre to the middle left of the photo; the western stone of row 6 is to the left hand side of the menhir.

Log Text: It is always surprising to me when I encounter long stone rows in moorland. This particular one has significant termini and a central cairn. The stones are relatively small but two out of three ain't bad!
