Log Text: I was so focused on the admittedly impressive standing stone that I failed to notice the low cairn, known as Clach Ard according to Canmore ID 11196 c. 5 yards to the S of Uig Standing Stone.

Boskednan stone circle

Boskednan stone circle

Boskednan stone circle submitted by JimChampion on 22nd Aug 2005. The portal stones illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. The tallest one (on the left) has a diagonal groove present on this and the opposite side. The holes that the restored stones were raised from have been covered with pegged down foliage, presumably to encourage regrowth on the bare earth.

Log Text: Boskednan stone circle's isolated location and the impressive height of the stones amplify the gravitas of this monument.

Nine Ladies

Nine Ladies submitted by Infinite_Fate on 31st Dec 2005. Looking North one November day showing banking (or, the Ladies' skirts).

Log Text: I was somewhat underwhelmed by the Nine Ladies of Stanton Moor. The scale of the circle was smaller than I expected.

Nine Stones (Altarnun)

Nine Stones (Altarnun)

Nine Stones (Altarnun) submitted by stonedowser on 1st Feb 2002. The circle at Altarnun is right out on the open moor and there is an excellent cairn circle not too far away, (if you can find it). As far as dowsing goes it is quite straightforward

Log Text: The flatness of the moor and the splendid isolation of Nine Stones (Altarnun) enhance this stone circle. One of the best sites in Cornwall!

Haggstone Moor Standing Stone

Haggstone Moor Standing Stone submitted by markj99 on 9th Dec 2022. Location of Haggstone Moor Standing Stone viewed from SE.

Log Text: Glen App Wind Farm prohibits unauthorised vehicle access but allows access on foot, bike or horse. I had left my horse and bike at home, so I had to walk up the private road to NX 065 726. Expecting that the stone was recumbent, I rummaged through the rough grass and tree stumps. Unexpectedly, I found a horizontal stone at the base of a tree on NW side of the road. Moor Standing Stone may seem to be somewhat underwhelming, but I regard finding a recumbent stone at the given Grid Reference as a successful outcome.

Haggstone Moor Cairn

Garleffin

Garleffin

Garleffin submitted by markj99 on 21st Jun 2019. Garleffin Stone in front garden.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Canmore ID 60935 relates the sadly familiar tale of a megalithic site destroyed by modern farming. Only 2 of the original stones remain in the garden of a bungalow called Druidslea, probably named after the stones. The standing stone in the front garden is allegedly in its original position but the second standing stone was moved to the back garden in 1991. Garleffin stones are like caged tigers in a zoo: they shouldn't be subjected to such indignity.

Log Text: The stone remains on Dun Hiader are difficult to interpret but, there is no doubt that the steep-sided dun would provide an excellent defensive location.

Dun Ibrig submitted by markj99 on 9th Oct 2020. Approaching Dun Ibrig there is more water than land.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: It is ironic that Dun Ibrig is so close to civilisation (Scarinish) and so difficult to access. On my visit the marshland approach was waterlogged and Dun Ibrig was surrounded by a moat of deep water.
