(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Short Cross is located c. 500 yards N of Altarnun at the start of a narrow lane leading to Tresibbett. I had to clear away vegetation to find the broken cross head embedded in the base of a stone wall.

Kilmar Tor North Propped Stone submitted by dooclay on 24th Oct 2022. Site in England, Kilmar Tor N possible Propped Stone
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: With so many random stones scattered on Kilmar Tor, one could easily walk past this stone setting. I'm leaning towards the man-made monument rather than natural stone arrangement.

Log Text: I parked up on the edge of Twelve Men's moor at SX 25841 75851, walked E to reach the valley between Kilmar Tor & Bearah Tor. I followed the valley W to reach the Bearah Tor Tramway, then headed S towards the obvious cairns on the summit of Langstone Downs. There are three contiguous stone cairns on a SE-NW Axis.

Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 6th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Minions Platform Round Barrow submitted by thecaptain on 22nd Oct 2009. The platform cairn marked on OS Maps as "Minions Mound", but in reality is not.
View here to The Hurlers, with Stowe's Pound and the Rillaton Barrow on the horizon.

Log Text: The tumulus may not be well preserved but it is only 300 yards NW of Minions Car Park, so why not take a small detour before visiting the Hurlers.
Minions Mound
Date Added: 21st Jun 2023
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 6th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4

Minions Mound submitted by windowman on 21st Jan 2012. Minions Mound, a bronze age cairn that is situated by the car park for the Hurlers stone circle site. Easy to miss, many if not all the visitors to the car park are probably unaware just what this small mound is. The mound was damaged when the walls for the adjacent cottages were built, and half the mound was cut away, forming a 'D' shape. The cairn gave it's name to the village of Minions, which was previously called Cheewring Railway, a major junction point for the original Liskeard and Carad...

Log Text: The stone wall constructed round the mound may be protecting it for future antiquarians, however it also disguises the antiquity of the site.
Twelve men's moor cairn and cist
Date Added: 21st Jun 2023
Site Type: Cist
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 8th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

Twelve men's moor cairn and cist submitted by Bladup on 15th Apr 2013. Twelve men's moor cairn and cist.

Log Text: There is something attractive about an intact cist exposed in a cairn. The isolated location of the cairn probably contributed to its survival.
Rillaton Barrow
Date Added: 21st Jun 2023
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 7th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

Craddock Moor Cairn Cemetery submitted by dooclay on 23rd Oct 2022. Has hollow from past robbing at centre
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The E tumulus, the best preserved of the pair, is visible WSW of Craddock Moor Stone Circle. The W mound has been treated badly by the ravages of time (and Man) resulting in a central mound c. 2 feet high surrounded by a stony bank.
Craddock Moor circle
Date Added: 22nd Jun 2023
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 7th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Craddock Moor circle submitted by mattimpey on 9th Dec 2008. Three of the most prominant prostrate stones look East. The large bush is in the middle of the stone circle.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Craddock Moor Stone Circle is not Stonehenge. This shy and retiring stone circle can only be seen at close quarters due to all of its stones being recumbent. It is nonetheless a significant monument in an area rich in ancient archaeology.
Trewortha Cairns
Date Added: 1st Jul 2023

Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 8th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Trewortha Cairns submitted by dooclay on 23rd Oct 2022. Site in England
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: I have spent more time than I care to recall wandering Twelve Men's Moor searching for cairns. It is a particularly frustrating experience rewarded by the discovery of an occasional cist and cairn.
Trewortha Kerb cairn and cist
Date Added: 1st Jul 2023
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 4th May 2017. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 3

Trewortha Kerb cairn and cist submitted by Bladup on 15th Apr 2013. Trewortha Kerb cairn and cist
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Trewortha Kerb cairn is easier to find than most of the nearby cairn because it has a raised kerb of orthostats surrounding an open central cist. This is my favourite cairn on Twelve Men's Moor.
Hawk's Tor (South)
Date Added: 1st Jul 2023
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 10th Mar 2014. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 3

Hawk's Tor (South) submitted by SandyG on 29th Sep 2019. The Hawk's Tor (South) stone row, view from the east.

Log Text: I summited Hawk's Tor without any expectations. I was surprised to find these mysterious stones wedged into a crevice between rocks. Subsequently I discovered that this arrangement was considered to be a stone row.
Great Cursus, Stonehenge
Date Added: 5th Jul 2023
Site Type: Cursus
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Great Cursus, Stonehenge submitted by TimPrevett on 10th Jun 2011. See the first comment on the Great Cursus page HERE for June 10th 2011 for more information.

(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Great Cursus is a polar opposite of its more famous neighbour, Stonehenge Stone Circle. The Great Cursus blends into the landscape whereas Stonehenge Stone Circle stands out on the plain. If you take the path to the circle from the visitor centre the Great Cursus is visited on the way. The west end of the cursus has an information board in a clearing of the Fargo Plantation.
Great Cursus Barrows, Stonehenge
Date Added: 5th Jul 2023
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 4th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3
Great Cursus Barrows, Stonehenge submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2004. One of the most impressive bell barrows - which we thought resembled landed 'flying saucers'.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Great Cursus Barrows are obvious on the horizon viewed from the stone circle. It is more prominent than the nearby Great Cursus. It's a shame that the majority of visitors to Stonehenge take the bus to and from the stone circle missing out on the less spectacular barrow cemetery and cursus.
Heel Stone
Date Added: 5th Jul 2023
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Wiltshire)

Log Text: It is only possible to get close to the heel stone if you buy a ticket at the visitor centre, allowing a closer circuit of Stonehenge round the roped-off monument.
