Visited: Saw from a distance on 26th Apr 2022

Trendle Ring

Trendle Ring submitted by mattimpey on 15th Sep 2008. Hopefully you can just make out the single bank and ditch of what I think is Trendle Ring on a ridge of a Quantock hillside. It is a single ditch and rampart enclosure about 130m above sea level. The bracken was to thick to hike across in September so I hope to visit again in the winter when it has all died down or I find someone who knows where the path to it is.

Cornridge SE submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jun 2004. Corn Ridge cairn, Dartmoor, Devon SX551891 The remains of a nice large cairn can be found at the summit of Corn Ridge, about 10m diameter. There is the usual depression in its middle, but otherwise it seems fairly intact, with some quite nice stones forming its outside shape. There is also what seems to be the remains of a circle of stones surrounding it with about 2 metres extra diameter.

Merrivale Menhir

Merrivale Menhir submitted by AngieLake on 10th Apr 2015. This shot shows the "smaller pillar" that Butler describes, in relation to the menhir and the cairn 6 pit. He says: "The menhir, 3.1 m high, still stands in its original position, 42 m almost due south from the centre of the stone circle. There is no evidence that the smaller pillar, 2 m long, lying a few meters away ever stood upright, but it was erected in 1895 in the pit alongside, toppling again a few years later. Between these two stones cairn C6 (3.0 x 0.3 m) has a central pit. Three st...
