Date Added: 7th Sep 2011
Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement
Country: Wales (Anglesey)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Din Lligwy submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Lligwy Ancient Settlement SH497861
This settlement, NW from Moelfre and not far from the Lligwy burial chamber is huge! A short walk from parking space for maybe 3 cars, through woodland, this location can occupy a considerable amount of time exploring the nooks & crannies of this probable 4th century AD settlement.

Caer Leb

Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement
Country: Wales (Anglesey)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4
Caer Leb submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Apr 2004. Caer Leb is a rectilinear settlement enclosure, with double ditches and banks defining an area 200 feet by 160 feet. Some have interpreted it as a mediaeval homestead with moat (indeed, some of the ditches get very water logged). However, finds of a 3rd Century AD brooch, a 4th Century denarius of Postumus, and Roman pottery and quernstones date the site much earlier than mediaeval. Like the Din Lligwy Settlement, the CADW guidebook says it possibly has its origins earlier than the 3rd Century, ...

Tumiac tumulus

Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 4

Tumiac tumulus submitted by AlexHunger on 2nd Nov 2004. Tumulus de Tumiac, otherwise known as Butte De Cesar is the first noticeable site on the southerly Presqu’ile de Rhuys, on the way to Arzon. No serious attempt has been to date this large pile of rocks, but it is largely in the state it was in 2050 years ago, when it was first mentioned. This is a somewhat ...

Ffyst Samson (Trellys) submitted by Johnny on 17th Sep 2001. Ffyst Samson neolithic chamber (SM 906 349) is otherwise known as Trellys, St. Nicholas. It is bizarre in appearance, consisting of a capstone apparently delicately balanced on just two tall pointed supporting stones. Although difficult to reach, the effort required is worthwhile!

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem on 25th Aug 2004. Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." This stunning cromlech is right on the Pembrokeshire coast, not far from Fishguard. It sits in a coastal sheep meadow, accessable over the cattle grid off the farm driveway. The ambience is magnificent as you can see.

Abereiddy Promontory Fort submitted by h_fenton on 12th Jan 2010. Abereiddy Promontory Fort/enclosure, view of the ditches, ramparts and interior with the later tower. Just beyond the tower and to the right (north) are some depressions that probably contained buildings, these depressions have banks on their lower sides.
The slight bank closest to the camera is probably post-medieval.
Very low level, Kite Aerial Photograph (I do have a few higher shots but this show it all quite well)
