Gleninsheen 1 submitted by jeffrep on 17th Aug 2008. Dated to ca. 2500 BCE, Gleninsheen is a box-shapped wedge tomb is one of many such structures located in this area of the Burren. Gleninsheen is slightly less than 10 feet long and roughly three feet wide, and consists of two sidestones, a backstone, and a large roofstone. In 1932 in a rock crevice near this area a farmer found the famous Gleninsheen Collar: a 31cm gold neck ornament dated to about 700 B.C., now on display at the National Museum in Dublin.

Dun Eoghanachta submitted by jeffrep on 17th Aug 2008. Dun Eoghanachta (pronounced "Onacht"), one of several stone forts on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. A circular fort with a rather complete structure, it was partially reconstructed in the late 19th Century. The exact date of its construction are not known, but it is probably Iron Age. One observer has dated it to the 5th Century BCE. Almost 90 feet in diameter, it has 16 foot high walls that are over 12 feet thick. Its walls have stairs in several places. Dun Eochla

Dun Eochla submitted by jeffrep on 13th Aug 2008. Dun Eochla, a stone fort located at the highest point on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Consisting of two series of walls, which with the stone hut in the enclosure, were repaired in the late 19th Century. It has been estimated that Dun Eochla was originally built sometime between 550 and 800 A.D. and was the dwelling place for an extended family and their animals. It may have replaced an even older settlement.
