Finlaggan

Finlaggan submitted by Andy B on 13th Jun 2011. Finlaggan Standing Stone A solitary Standing Stone , naturally predating the Lordship of the Isles. As ever various theories surround the placing and use of the stone. However in 1994 Geophysic surveys by the "Time Team" suggest that there may have originally been a line of stones marking the way to Jura. Ormaig submitted by rockartuk on 18th Aug 2001. On the West slope of Creag Mhor (NM 8222 0267) you may find a magnificent series of over 200 carvings, many in 'mint' condition. They were recently (1973) uncovered. This is a detail of two of the three rosettes of different sizes. This realy cheers you up!

Nether Largie standing stone

Nether Largie standing stone submitted by caradoc68 on 18th Aug 2012. This standing stone is in the middle of a field, a short distance of the footpath. The farmer does not like you being there and might put a angry looking bull in the field to put visitors off. Cant find a lot written about this stone or why it seems to be leaning at 45 degrees and pointing to the southeast.

Nether Largie South

Nether Largie South submitted by Fairycake on 26th Sep 2020. Looking towards the cairn from the south with the large cist in the foreground. This is by far the biggest cist I have seen. There are several inserted into earlier monuments near to here, apart from this, showing these sites continued to have significance over a long period of time.

Dalinaneun Farm Cairn 2

Dalinaneun Farm Cairn 2 submitted by caradoc68 on 15th Feb 2012. This cairn stands to a height of 1.8 metres above the surrounding field, but it has been enlarged to its present diameter of 31.4 metres by the dumping of cairn material round the perimeter when the central area was pillaged in the 19th century. Two slabs, which may have been the sides of a cist measuring about 1 metre in length, 0.6 metres in width and 0.8 metres in depth, lie in the centre of the cairn. The cairn had already been excavated by the 1870s and it is recorded (Name Book 1870) th...

Dalineun submitted by hamish on 17th Feb 2004. On your way to Strontoiller you must visit this lovely Cairn at Dalnaneun Farm. The chamber and capstone are completely exposed and not much of the original covering is left.It is interesting to see the construction of one of these.Plenty of places to park, but access is over a barbed wire fence which is just at crotch height so be careful.
