Three Shires Stone

Three Shires Stone submitted by Thorgrim on 22nd Aug 2003. The Three Shires Stones mark the place where Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire meet. They are near Marshfield and Colerne on the Fosse Way at ST796700. It is claimed that these boundary stones were erected in 1859 and are believed to be the remains of a chambered tomb. The shot is from the altar as I call it, through the entrance at the King's Men, Rollrights. This alignment was calculated by Jack Morris Eyton, though he never got the chance to confirm it.

York Roman remains

York Roman remains submitted by jeffrep on 7th Apr 2020. The English city of York has, since Roman times, been defended with walls of one form or another. In 71 A.D., the Romans built a fort occupying about 50 acres on the banks of the River Ouse, and surrounded it with a rectangle of walls. This photo is the Multangular Tower, that was constructed as part of a series of eight similar defensive towers, built from 209 to 211 A.D. It has ten sides and is almost 30 feet tall.
