Log Text: Excellent site with a short walk in and parking nearby. The location feels relatively secluded although it’s near to Inverurie, so well worth the short trip off the A96 if you’re in the area. The circle offers an excellent view of local mountain Mither Tap to the north west and although the landscape use will have changed since it was created, you may feel a sense of why the creators of the monument wanted to make this place.

Log Text: Amazing place with views into the higher dales & moors and a really unusual labyrinth carving, definitely one to revisit and photograph through the seasons. Saw deer running in the woods just before locating the rock art! Very mossy when we visited but this was off the back of an extremely wet season. Still visible and feels like uncovering a treasure.

Foreground: 9 exposures of 30 seconds f/8.0 ISO 100 Sky: 300 exposures of 45 seconds f/4.0 ISO 1600 I find something magical about the process of creating a startrail picture. Sitting under the stars for three or four hours with no lights so my eyes have adjusted to the dark so well that I don't need any additional light. Gazing at the vastness of the universe, spotting meteors, satellites, aircraft, all in complete silence. I don't really sleep because ...

Log Text: I was surprised at the relatively small scale of the monument! Still big enough to squeeze through the hole in the stone however.
On a moor with cows, fortunately they weren’t close when we visited. Quite a long walk from the road

Pentre Ifan

Pentre Ifan submitted by Horatio on 22nd Jun 2020. A year later and back at Pentre Ifan for the solstice sunset, all on my own some (apart from a 13yr old Jack Russell this time) I Was expecting at least to see one other (person not Jack Russell) at this site for the sunset. That morning I'd gone to see the sunrise at Gors Fawr stone circle and even left my house in the rain knowing there was zero chance of seeing a sunrise, I definitely was not disappointed, crap weather but I enjoyed being amongst the stones as the solstice sun rose, the cu...

Great Oak Stone

Great Oak Stone submitted by cerrig on 8th May 2012. This is the view from the South East, on a bearing of approx. 300 degrees North West, along the very flat and dead vertical "smiley"faced Northern flank. If someone hadn't thoughtfully planted a tree in the way you would be able to see that this stone is aligned on the top of Myarth hill (not the summit), beyond this the line goes to Bwllch standing stone, out of site from here. Spookily, if you followed the line in the opposite direction it goes directly through the house I used to live in , in...
