Llech Y Dribedd submitted by Horatio : Taken from my recent visit a couple of weeks back. I don't know but looking at this image, I just think 'The Tripods' and the 'White Mountains' book 1967. I was read this book at Junior School in the mid-late 70's and was scared shirtless! Basically every person I've met on my travels around the country who can remember the Tripods Trilogy had the same experience. Henry, Will and Beanpole if a... (Vote or comment on this photo)
Llech y Dribedd Chambered Tomb is located on a public footpath near Moylgrove at SN101432 and is definitely worth a visit. In a field near the village of Moylegrove. It is variously described as a burial chamber, dolmen or cromlech. At a distance it resembles a sort of alien craft from outer space, but closer up it is a huge lump of stone standing on three smaller up-rights.

The triangular-shaped capstone measures some 10 ft by 9 ft altogether, and is somewhat precariously perched on it's three stone supports or up-rights - which almost look as if they might give way at any moment. A local legend says that the capstone was thrown from the top of Carn Ingli near Nevern to it's present position by Samson - either the biblical Samson or the 6th century saint who appears to have had remarkable strength, if you listen to some other legends associated with him.

This monument is recorded as Coflein NPRN 304086, which simply describes it as "A free standing megalithic chamber, with earthfast stones supporting a substantial capstone: no traces of a mound are mentioned". Their entry includes photographs and aerial photographs.

The Journal of Antiquities also includes an entry for Llech-y-Dribedd, Moylgrove, Pembrokeshire, Wales, which includes a photograph, a description and a list of several reference sources. The Journal adds: "The earthen mound that once covered the tomb has long since eroded away, although one of the recumbent stones beneath the capstone was said to be ‘still standing’ in the early 18th century".

Llech Y Dribedd submitted by Horatio : Llech-y-Dribedd - ‘Stone of the Three Graves If you haven't visited this site, then don't leave it too late. The capstone has a crack through it and the front orthostat has a crack all the way through it too. It would be a shame for this monster to collapse. Surely this could be rectified somehow to ensure it stands for generations to come, Stonehenge has been 'shored up' amongst other a... (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: Llech Y Dribedd, graffiti incised or something much older... by JWli on Friday, 05 February 2021

I visited this interesting site yesterday, thursday 04.02.2021 in late afternoon, and recorded the stones plus various landscape views of the monument against the setting sun etc.
What caught my interest particularly came to light when I examined all the stones for any markings they might have. On the capstone I found various modern incised graffiti such a initials and dates. I also found other more abstract shapes, which were repeated over the side of the capstone, though not in any way that would form a pattern, though I did find some shapes that were definitely forming a pattern , albeit in tiny areas. I don't know if I'm describing yet more modern graffiti, or something to do with the geology of the stone, or maybe even an incidental artefact of moving it to the site originally or of just age and weathering. Anyway, it got my interest and I think it's worth sharing to find out what others make of it. Am I imagining it's more than it is - or what? I'd like to find out either way, and I thought it worth recording all the same ;) Photos to follow when I've worked out what to do!! By the way, I have taken loads of photos of the various marks I found, but too many to post all at once, plus I lost track of which I'd posted and which I hadn't as I was trying to upload. I just looked at a book review on this site and recognise a lozenge pattern from Orkney as being one on the capstone; mind you it is a pretty timeless design :/I will try to upload a few more images if allowed to later on. Thanks for reading.

We look forward to seeing your photos JWIi. I remember visiting this site in the 1970s, but didn't have my camera with me. I viewed it from the track. There is some good information in the book 'Neolithic Sites of Cardiganshire Carmarthenshire & Pembrokeshire' by George Children and George Nash, a Logaston Press publication of 2002. I don't know whether you have the book.

I visited this site today. Wonderful views across to the Prescelli Hills (and the site of the Stonehenge blue stone quarry) and southwest towards Fishguard. From an adjacent hilltop the tops of the mountains of SE Ireland are visible on the horizon.

I dowsed this site and found two intersecting earth energy lines under the centre of the chambered tomb (that coming from Cornwall I would call a Quoit) giving a vortex of earth energy. The earth energy line, that runs through the tomb in a roughly east/west direction also runs WSW to a pile of similar stones some 15m away and, to the east there are three piles of stones some 60 - 80m along the energy line. At each of these piles of stones there is a crossing energy line giving a vortex at the intersection point over the centre of the piles.

I wonder if there is a connection between the chambered tomb and the outlying piles of stones.

I would be very interested to read what other dowsers might find here.
