the last time i came here about 18 years ago it was so overgrown i didnt think it was worth the effort
but as id seen from recent photos posted on the portal the bracken and heather seemed low so i went again and this time it was worth the (considerable) effort of finding it

Windywaycross, possibly a re-used standing stone on Ippestones Edge at SK056492 at a place called Windywaycross, just off the road branching to Alton Towers, off the Leek-Ashbourne road. Approaching from the north, the stone is 8m off the RH side of the road.

The three-part base is out of all proportion to the cross. The look of stability is deceptive given its three damaging brushed with modern traffic!
