Figgy Dowdy's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 26th Aug 2006. According to RootsWeb.com, this well is also known as Maggy Figgy and Margery Daw and was a popular place to christen your doll on Good Friday. The well has been restored by the Carn Marth Preservation Group and is kept locked as a safety measure. I’m sure Figgy Dowdy would approve of this as the rhyme ….
Figgy Dowdy had a well
On the top of Carn Marth hill
And she locked it night and day
Lest they took her water away
…. is associated with the well.

Take the road south through Mabe Burnthouse (SW of A39, W of Penryn & Falmouth). When the church becomes clearly visible, take the junction to the right on a sharp bend. The church is on the left and convenient parking adjacent the cemetery.
There is a narrow squeeze through a hole in the wall, into a very old-feeling graveyard; the midsummer canopy of the trees giving it a very dark entry. Following the tarmac path, th...

Eye Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 5th Oct 2006. The well’s sign says “With a tablet stone dated 1700 this well once had a reputation for healing weak and troubled eyes and supplied water for the local inhabitants. The name Bree comes from the Cornish word ‘bre’ which means hill and survives from the 15th and 16th century Priory administration, where ‘Breest’ appeared in account rolls of rent paying tenants showing the ‘hillside east’ was then occupied.
