St. Pedyr's Well
St. Pedyr's Well submitted by cazzyjane : St Pedyr's Well, Treloy. There was formerly a chapel close by and the well was resorted to by the sick during the 17th century. After being left to ruin, it was restored in 1953 by the Old Cornwall Society. It is now the most wonderfully peaceful and atmospheric spot. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well in Cornwall. Located in a remote copse which to reach I asked permission from the farm owner. One climbs down into the dell and find one of the most atmospheric of the county's holy wells.

The water arises from beneath a stone built and pitched roofed well house and fills a long bath structure. This was filled with water cress which I removed temporarily for the photograph. The waters are said to be healing.

Thorgrim adds: It is on Treloy Farm and as mentioned, permission is required to visit it. According to Cheryl Straffon in her excellent guide to Cornish wells "Fentynyow Kernow" - you have to cross several muddy fields and negotiate bogs and brier. The effort is worth it for the tranquil atmosphere that pervades (so I'm told)

Looks like a beautiful location. One for the bucket list. I got to see the Ring of Brodgar last year, maybe get to see this next year!

I tried to search for the well but the road that is on the map leads through a farm. I looked on an old map of 1888 and the well, along with the ruins of a chapel, belong to St Pedyrs. The map shows it is located in a wooded area, but it looks like it could be on farmers land.

Has anyone got any more information on this site?

I spoke to someone at the Royal Cornwall Show who is part of the Old Cornwall Society and she said they have recently restored this well, there is even a plaque there!

However if you want to visit it, you need to ask the farmers permission.
