Date Added: 26th Dec 2012
Site Type: Rock Cut Tomb Country: Malta (Mainland)
Visited: Yes on 26th Dec 2012. My rating: Condition 3 Access 4

Xemxija Tombs

Xemxija Tombs submitted by enkidu41 on 11th Jan 2005. Tomb 1 showing the circular accuracy of both the opening and the entrance to its 3-lobed chamber. The similar tomb 2 is just to the right. The tombs now connect underground due to the separating wall having collapsed.

Log Text: The tombs start about 20 metres from the road. Look for a couple of large piles of stones which mark where they are. Like many sites in Malta they are not signposted and you virtually have to be on top of them before you see them. There are houses on the other side of the road. Start half-way down the road and just walk into the rough land opposite the houses.

The museum is very modern and although small is packed with a multitude of artifacts. And the staff all speak excellent English. Nice cafe.

Log Text: An outcrop of which seems to be the site for graffiti over a long period of time. Some cup type marks but of dubious origin. Some unusual markings and symbols. No doubt it has been attracting visitors all this time. Hard to tell what is old and what is new. A giveaway is when people put the date on them.

Great views from it though.
