Log Text: An outcrop of which seems to be the site for graffiti over a long period of time. Some cup type marks but of dubious origin. Some unusual markings and symbols. No doubt it has been attracting visitors all this time. Hard to tell what is old and what is new. A giveaway is when people put the date on them.

Great views from it though.

Cerro da Vila

Cerro da Vila submitted by attlebax on 14th Jan 2016. Graves behind museum. Cerro da Vila, Vilamoura, Algarve.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Cerro da Vila is sited in Vilamoura on the Algarve, just down the road from the main post office. It is mainly a Roman site but is probably resting on an earlier settlement. It is the subject of proper archaeological investigation and the whole site is being extended gradually. It is part of a museum which is open on nearly every day of the year, the cost of entry is 3 Euro for an adult. Discount for Seniors and students.

The ruins are quite extensive and you can see mosaic floors, pools and walls. As it is still under a 'dig' the staff are on site all the time. Well worth the 3 Euro.

Log Text: Easy enough to find but watch out. Closed 25/12/2013 - 01/01/2014 despite all the information saying that it was only closed on Christmas Day. I arrived and found an A4 piece of paper on the entrance with this information. Apparently it is always closed on a Monday.

The staff are friendly. The building is very clean and brightly lit. It is well signposted.

Xemxija Tombs

Xemxija Tombs

Xemxija Tombs submitted by enkidu41 on 11th Jan 2005. Tomb 1 showing the circular accuracy of both the opening and the entrance to its 3-lobed chamber. The similar tomb 2 is just to the right. The tombs now connect underground due to the separating wall having collapsed.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: The tombs start about 20 metres from the road. Look for a couple of large piles of stones which mark where they are. Like many sites in Malta they are not signposted and you virtually have to be on top of them before you see them. There are houses on the other side of the road. Start half-way down the road and just walk into the rough land opposite the houses.

(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Easy enough to find, but also easy to walk by. On West Street. The local Tourist Board did not know they were there, despite the fact they were within 100 metres of their office. One stone is beside the bridge at the rear of the recycle bins (as mentioned in a previous posting). The others (again as per the posting) are along the road on Dorchester Hill near a roundabout in some trees.

Stavanger Museum submitted by attlebax on 29th May 2012. Exhibit in Stavanger museum. It's well worth the 10 minute walk from the harbour if you stop at Stavanger in a cruise ship. The museum is very modern and although small is packed with a multitude of artifacts. And the staff all speak excellent English. Nice cafe.

Clapham Junction Cart Ruts submitted by attlebax on 13th May 2012. Clapham Junction, Malta taken 28/12/2011. A wonderful site when you find it. There is a lot of speculation of what they were used for. Some ruts in the area seem to go over the cliff tops.
