Tealing Souterrain submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. Tealing is just north of Dundee on the A929. Turn into the village and follow the road round, and look for the signpost. The souterrain is down a track and over a stile in a field behind the doocot (16th century pigeon house). This site dates from approximately 100 AD, and is a well preserved example. These earth houses were covered over with thatched roofs, and used for storage. The cup and ring marked stone at the northern entrance is thought to have been taken from another site and used ...

Log Text: A very untidy entrance area, with lots of junk lying around, and a sad looking dog tied up at the beginning of the path. There are hints of structures all around, but very overgrown and difficult to interpret.

Log Text: Rough going to reach this site. After much wandering and scrambling around the rocks I found the faded sign from the local archaeology unit among rocks that themselves seem nothing special. It turns out I was only about 50 meters below the actual base of the nuraghe.

Log Text: There is an obvious path leading from the road to the site through a wonky gate made of twine and an old pallet. I was not surprised to find the circular structure nearby, but now I can't find where I would have heard that it was there.
