Carse Farm 1

Carse Farm 1 submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. The B846 runs below the village of Dull, and this site lies in a field to the south of the road just 50m west of the second road leading up to Dull. Marked on OS maps as a circle, (also referred to as Carse Farm) it is in fact a charming little 4-poster. It lies on an axis from the cup-marked rock in the fields beside Dull and the chapel therein. Strangely enough, however, the only stone of the 4 which carries any markings is that in the NE corner, (on the bearing from the chapel and cup-mark...

Bridge of Lyon long cairn

Bridge of Lyon long cairn submitted by rogerkread on 8th May 2017. View from the west. The bank to the left of the barrow appears to be ancient walling and is a continuation of that running alongside the nearby road. When that road curves to the right to approach the bridge the walling continues in a straight line to run beside the cairn as shown. Was this the original line of the road to a ford, before the bridge was built?

Ballymeanoch Kerb Cairn submitted by caradoc68 on 11th Dec 2011. NR 83395 96429, Kerb cairn, Ballymean. Kilmartin Glen is a very interesting area in Argyll rich in Archaeology. This Kerb cairn in know exception, being on private land the farmer has kindly fenced it off with pubic access to severely Neolithic/Bronze age features in this field.

Nether Largie standing stone

Nether Largie standing stone submitted by caradoc68 on 18th Aug 2012. This standing stone is in the middle of a field, a short distance of the footpath. The farmer does not like you being there and might put a angry looking bull in the field to put visitors off. Cant find a lot written about this stone or why it seems to be leaning at 45 degrees and pointing to the southeast.
