An Tobar

An Tobar submitted by KiwiBetsy on 8th Sep 2006. An Tobar is a stone lined well at the base of a slope. The structure is surmounted by quartz rocks and is well protected by stinging nettles and midges. A stone cup, pins and assorted coins were found in the well but there seems to be a lack of any other information about it.

Ballymeanoch Kerb Cairn

Ballymeanoch Kerb Cairn submitted by caradoc68 on 11th Dec 2011. NR 83395 96429, Kerb cairn, Ballymean. Kilmartin Glen is a very interesting area in Argyll rich in Archaeology. This Kerb cairn in know exception, being on private land the farmer has kindly fenced it off with pubic access to severely Neolithic/Bronze age features in this field.

Breitenstein Büdlich

Breitenstein Büdlich submitted by KaiHofmann on 13th Apr 2015. I don´t know if one of the two stones are part of the dissapeared stone. But I found two stones behind a small chapell besides the road to Büdlich. One white quarz stone is lying the other one is standing. The lying one looks more like the typical white quarz standing stones of this area. This is the thicker standing one.

Bridge of Lyon long cairn

Bridge of Lyon long cairn submitted by rogerkread on 8th May 2017. View from the west. The bank to the left of the barrow appears to be ancient walling and is a continuation of that running alongside the nearby road. When that road curves to the right to approach the bridge the walling continues in a straight line to run beside the cairn as shown. Was this the original line of the road to a ford, before the bridge was built?

Carse Farm 2

Carse Farm 2 submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. Just to the south of Dull (Carse Farm 1) the OS Map confidently announces another circle (remains of) at NN 806487. Don't be fooled, there is only one stone here As the field was full of cows, we didn't bother getting any closer to it either...

Carse Farm 1

Carse Farm 1 submitted by Nick on 5th Nov 2002. The B846 runs below the village of Dull, and this site lies in a field to the south of the road just 50m west of the second road leading up to Dull. Marked on OS maps as a circle, (also referred to as Carse Farm) it is in fact a charming little 4-poster. It lies on an axis from the cup-marked rock in the fields beside Dull and the chapel therein. Strangely enough, however, the only stone of the 4 which carries any markings is that in the NE corner, (on the bearing from the chapel and cup-mark...
