The Bulwarks (Breedon on the Hill)
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: England (Leicestershire and Rutland)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Sep 2007

The Bulwarks (Breedon on the Hill) submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2007. This is on the southern end of the hill, ramparts survive better, IIRC, on the western side, but time and incoming heavy rain were against me on this visit. Take in the church, too, which heaves with history from Anglo-Saxon, Norman, and beyond!

Wall to wall blue sky, advanced copper toned beech tree leaves on the ground and above, sunlight across the facade, and 90 minutes of complete solitude up here.

Woodman's Cross
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Barrow Cemetery
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 3rd May 2008
Woodman's Cross submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd May 2008. Four bowl barrows overlooking Wool, one mounted by a trig point, a little way north east from Woodman's Cross. Way before I was interested in stones and lumps and bumps, as a young teenager I'd come to this hill to take photos of the trig point against sunrises / sunsets, or stop for a snack on a long walk. Now I know what it was I was really wanting to photo. Coming back years later the barrows were so obvious... they were just part of the hill when I was a kid!

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jul 2008
Gelli Hill Circle submitted by TimPrevett on 29th Jul 2008. The circle as it is best located - in the angle of a boundary; this is inconsistent with the 1:25000 map, from which the boundaries have changed (as have footpaths) which can cause confusion. 28th July 2008.

Rhos y Gelynen Stones
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 15th Aug 2008
Rhos y Gelynen Stones submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Aug 2008. Three standing stones, two prostrate, and one partially buried lie in a row west-south-west to east-north-east. A long walk for this, good footwear imperative. Best reached by first visiting the stones at Cefn Llanerchi near the masts and aerials, then cutting a line out west to reach a track which runs past them. Any lower approach ends up being horrendously boggy.
