Site Type: Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature
Country: England (Staffordshire)
Visited: Yes on 5th Nov 2006

The Winking Man submitted by TimPrevett on 5th Nov 2006. The Winking Man - a natural convincing anthropomorphic rock formation on Ramshaw Rocks at SK 02021 62362. This is in North Staffordshire on the west side of the Leek - Buxton Road. The route immediately below the rock outcrops is on a Roman Road, and remains one of the most accident prone deadly A roads in the country. Parking is to west of the Rocks (good layby at SK 01746 62012), then a fairly easy walk up to near the summit, and the Winking Man is on the east side. Tripping hazards and drops...

Five Wells

Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: England (Derbyshire)
Visited: Yes on 7th Nov 2006

Five Wells submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Nov 2006. A view without so many nettles! It can get very overgrown around the chambers during summer. It is possible to enter the western chamber a little, but the eastern is much more accommodating, and can provide a welcome windbreak.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Shropshire)
Visited: Yes on 18th Jan 2007

Fiddler's Elbow submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Jan 2007. The unmistakable artwork of the Wychwood Ale, "Fiddler's Elbow", which incorporates folklore motifs common to Stone Circles and Standing Stones - fairies, and a diabolical fiddler. Interestingly, there is a perished standing stone in Shropshire at a location called... Fiddler's Elbow, and just 5 miles east from there, is the fairy stone, where there was once a noted fairy encounter. Image is used with permission of The Wychwood Brewery who produce a range of good ales, with artwork in keeping ...

Tenants Hill enclosure submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Jan 2007. A composite of the curious enclosure on Tenants Hill. A beautiful, peaceful spot. Said to be Bronze Age, one wonders what sort of monument this may have been apart from the ambiguous term 'enclosure'. Looking NWW. Boxing day 2006.

Bedd Branwen submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Feb 2007. A pile of clearance material just south of Bedd Branwen, next to the river. In cases like this you can't help but wonder if this was *something* (well of course it was *something*, but perhaps related to the nearby ring cairn).
