Five Wells

Five Wells submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Nov 2006. A view without so many nettles! It can get very overgrown around the chambers during summer. It is possible to enter the western chamber a little, but the eastern is much more accommodating, and can provide a welcome windbreak.

Balnuaran of Clava Kerb Cairn

Balnuaran of Clava Kerb Cairn submitted by TimPrevett on 15th Oct 2006. When visiting this site, if you bear in mind that the Victorians presented this site in accordance with their interpretation, you'll understand why the trees dominate. They believed the tombs here were Druid temples, and so they planted the area with Beech in the 1870s to reflect their notion of it as a Druidic Grove.

Great Cursus, Stonehenge

Great Cursus, Stonehenge

Great Cursus, Stonehenge submitted by TimPrevett on 10th Oct 2006. One of the National Trust interpretive signs for the Cursus area. Such a small percentage of the visitors to Stonehenge actually get to see there. In a 4 hour walk from Stonehenge, taking in the Cursus, Old and New King Barrow, Cuckoo Stone, to Woodhenge and Durrington Walls, returning along some of the Avenue, I met 1 other person. If you want some solitude near Stonehenge (I was going to say peace, but helicopters were buzzing around very often), explore the wider landscape. It's a treat.
