Log Text: This 3.1 metre tall menhir is said to be in the field downhill from the Ferme de Hoberie southwest of the village of Ussy. I could find nowhere to park and see no way through the farm without going through fields of cows so didn’t bother as I was in a rush to get back.

Log Text: Despite being marked on the ign map and having a good look all around I could find no sign of any menhir here. Perhaps it is fallen and somewhere within a field of oilseed Rape.
Later note. Having seen the 1:25000 ign map of the area the menhir is marked fairly close to the corner of the road and farm track right where I was looking originally. As I suspected the menhir must be fallen and hidden within the crop.

Log Text: As I am right here and passing by, thought I may as well stop and take a look in the daylight. The crops in the field are growing, or more likely its been left fallow, but the ploughs have been right up to the stone and its fairly difficult to spot, even with this small growth. The poor stone is in a very sorry state, and could do with some TLC. Shame its so woefully looked after, so close to the well maintained large barrow.

Log Text: The Pierre Fichade at Champeix is a pleasant menhir, about 4 metres tall and which can be found in a field to the south of the D.28 road between Ludesse and Champeix. It is easily visible from the road, and can be visited via a couple of farm tracks. There are signposts to it along the local footpaths, and in fact it is signposted from the village of Champeix.

Log Text: Pierre Saint Julien is a 3.5 metre tall menhir, stood outside the main entrance to St Julien Cathedral, Le Mans. It is a truly lovely stone, made from a very heavily stratified, and vividly coloured rock. From certain angles, and in the right light, it looks for all the world to be a man dressed in hooded cloak stood outside the entrance of this sacred place. I do not know where the stone originally came from.

Log Text: Just outside of Gennes beside the D.751 road is this pointy topped menhir, near to the corner of a field by a cement works. It is about 4 metres tall, and of the local sarsen stone.

Log Text: This menhir is supposed to be 3.8 metes tall and nicely shaped but I could not find it. I took both the high road (a gravel track ) and the low road through the farmyard of the same name looking but I didn’t even catch a glimpse of it.

Log Text: At the north western end of the section of the Corniche-des-Cévennes along the high Causse near Le Hospitalet, where the road from Vebron joins at the Col de Solperière, can be found this menhir in the junction of the roads.
It stands about 2.3 metres high like its neighbour of a few kilometres distance, and has also been used as a road marker in the past, with some probable reshaping in the relatively recent past. Between these two stones, along the roadside, are several other similar looking standing stones. Closer inspection however shows that they are much more recent, with quarrying marks etc, and are purely more modern road markers.

Log Text: Three hundred metres further down the road from the previous menhirs, and in the land to the north of the road, can be found the Coulet 2 menhir. Nearly 3 metres tall, it is a nice almond shaped stone, which has been mended from two parts cemented back together, and concreted into an upright position. A nice job has been done of this.

Log Text: This menhir is to be found out in the land to the left of the road, at the same place as the Cisternette menhir. It is over 3 metres tall, and looks to have lost its top. Its another nicely shaped slab, flat on one face, curved on the other, and only 40 cm thick.

The well known burial chamber can be seen on the headland beside the cross.

Menhir du Mené submitted by TheCaptain on 11th May 2011. This tall thin menhir is built into a roadside bank, and is more than 4 metres tall from the top of that. If the ground level is at the road level, the menhir would be 7 metres tall.

It is difficult to get to see due to all the undergrowth, but when round the back, in amongst the brambles, it looks like it has a crook carved onto it.

Menhir du Moustoir submitted by thecaptain on 10th Jun 2006. The Moustoir tumulus has a small menhir on the top at the eastern end, and a larger one at the bottom of the western end.
The menhir at the western end is 3.3 metres high, quite thin and a nice pointed triangular shape.

Log Text: A 2 metre tall menhir similar to the Roche Longue of St Marcan, once stood in the fields of Perron, about 800 metres south of La Roche Longue. It somehow disappeared in the 1930's.
