The complete text on the menhir is as follows:
Here, around this druidic stone are buried about 600 shipwrecked of the ship "Human Rights", shattered by the storm on January 14, 1797.
Major Pipon, born in Jersey, miraculously escaped this disaster, returned to this beach on July 21, 1840, and duly authorized, has engraved on the stone this lasting witness of his recognition.

Menhir des Droits de l'Homme
Menhir des Droits de l'Homme submitted by thecaptain : Further to Paulcalls recent photos of this stone with the top broken off, it can be clearly seen in this 2005 picture that it is not the first time. Lets hope that they can put it back together again soon. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Menhir des Droits de l'Homme
Menhir des Droits de l'Homme submitted by paulcall : The reverse of the menhir, which faces the sea, has no inscription. Taken 5 May 2009, when the top third of the stone had gone missing. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Menhir des Droits de l'Homme
Menhir des Droits de l'Homme submitted by paulcall : Sadly, since our captain submitted the origin photos of this menhir, the top third of the stone has fallen off. This is what it looked like on 5 May 2009. (3 comments)

Menhir des Droits de l'Homme
Menhir des Droits de l'Homme submitted by paulcall : This is the information sign about the droits de l'homme menhir in both french and breton languages. To me breton looks remarkably like welsh, and there probably is a common origin. (3 comments)
