There are remains of subsidiary enclosures, fields or paddocks, to the south-west, covering an area of about100m by 80m. An embanked trackway leads away to the north-west."

Ty Illtyd Chambered Cairn

Ty Illtyd Chambered Cairn submitted by Johnny on 18th Sep 2001. Ty Illtyd Chambered Long Cairn (Powys, S0 098 264) This site, high up on a hilltop ridge above Llamhamlach, commands panoramic views along the floodplains of the Usk river. The north-facing chamber of the tomb, with capstone in situ, lies just off-centre in a much denuded oval shaped mound 23.0 metres in length and 15.5 metres wide. Several upright stones outside the chamber may once have delineated a forecourt area suggesting that Ty Illtyd may have been a simple terminal chamber tomb. The...

Water of Deugh

Water of Deugh submitted by PaulM on 29th Oct 2002. King’s Cairn Another inclusion in the regions’ Archaeosights leaflet - quite a way into wilderness country but the lane is a nice drive. Once you have found the relavant stile your walk begins. It is not a long walk but it is uphill, dark and wet (I wish I hadn’t watched The Blair Witch Project a night or two before!) but the King’s Cairn is worth the fear. Strangely the cairn (at NS55210090) is enclosed in a fence (easily crossed) and then a ramshackled dry stone wall. Not in...

Log Text: This location (where did that name Weston Camp come from?), is I think a settlement, not a hillfort. My 1:25000 map showed it as a Settlement. Both of these (hill)forts were perhaps "defended enclosures", but this is significantly smaller than the adjacent Llanfilo Camp.

Superb location for views of the Brecon Beacons which surely were of significance to the builders, and of other hillforts in the area.

Log Text: I was there late evening, a rushed visit due to the next day's weather forecast being so unpleasant. I'm glad I went. Perhaps it's because dusk was upon me that the ambience was quite impressive, and the site's structure is unusual. I'm dead against grouse shoooting, but it would be sort-of helpful good if the heather in and around the circle were burnt again! V diff to photograph without a wide lens (and a long pole).
