Grey Stone (Harewood)
Date Added: 17th Jun 2017
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Would like to visit
Grey Stone (Harewood) submitted by DavidRaven on 13th Aug 2003. A large boulder in the grounds of the Harewood House estate near Harrogate.
A very worn carving of seven concentric rings lies on it's north-western flank. The carving faces out over the valley to the conspicuous outcrop called Almscliff Crag. Apparently, the midwinter full moon would have set
behind the crags at the lunar standstill in 1800 B.C.!
If you visit, watch out for the Red Kites and over zealous estate workers intent on preventing gentle tresspass!

Haylie submitted by mickm on 22nd Jan 2005. Haylie burial chamber, also known as Haco’s Tomb is situated on a shelf on the hillside overlooking Largs. This Clyde type chamber is all that remains of what was an enormous cairn that was known as Margaret’s Law. Hird Wood submitted by stu on 16th Jul 2004. NY416059.
Remains of a concentric circle. Picture shows the largest stone of the inner circle (2 lower ones not shown). And the 3 stones of the outer ring built into a field wall.
There are other possible 'fallen' stones of the outer ring dotted around.
Access is pretty straightforward, approximately 0.25miles down a bridleway (NY414 062) which passes through the circle.
