Site Type: Marker Stone
Country: United States
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2023. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 3 Access 2

Foxborough Standing Stone (5 submitted by stonetracker on 21st Jan 2023. Site Q on published map. This standing stone was originally twice as tall but the top half broke off sometime between 2003 and 2017. The broken half is lying on the ground in the foreground. The buttress stones are still there. Clearly manmade.

Log Text: An update on access. This site is accessed from a trail north from Megley, opposite the Dolmen site trailhead. Climb up trail 100 yds or so onto open ledges. Just after the ledges, turn right and bushwhack into the woods about 75 ft. Site is very difficult to spot from trail as it is surrounded by trees; GPS is helpful.

Log Text: Site is equidistant from either the High Rock or Thurston St lots. From Thurston St, take Megley Trail about 3/4 of a mile. After you pass the side trail to Foxborough Standing Stone (2), take the next side trail for 50 ft east to the site which is on a flat ledge.

Foxborough Prayer Seat (7)
Date Added: 1st Feb 2023
Site Type: Cairn
Country: United States
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2023. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 2

Foxborough Prayer Seat (7) submitted by stonetracker on 23rd Jan 2023. Took some effort to find, as it is in the bushes. The U-shaped enclosure, which could be a prayer seat, has settled a bit into the topsoil.

Log Text: Revisited. No change but added a photo. This site is located in difficult terrain, as it is deep in a valley with steep sides and no direct trail. If you approach from the south, be prepared to cross a wetland.

Country: United States
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2023. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 3

Foxborough Perched Boulder (6) submitted by stonetracker on 26th Jan 2023. Large boulder sitting on one prop stone. Could be an accident of nature except that the prop appears to have been inserted long after the boulder settled there.

Log Text: Site S on published map. Best accessed from the Thurston St parking lot. About 1/4 mile down a side trail that runs east from Megley Trail. Site is right next to the trail on the right.

Mont Helena

Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Mont Helena submitted by stonetracker on 6th Feb 2023. Wider view
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The one remaining mound is on private property. There is a Victorian mansion on top. Closest view from a vehicle is a pull-off on Rolling Fork Rd, about 800 ft from the site. Good visibility.
Arcola Mounds
Date Added: 4th Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Arcola Mounds submitted by stonetracker on 4th Feb 2023. Mound C in center of image, with a borrow pit nearby. Mound B on left and Mound A on right partially blocked from view.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: All mounds are on private property. There is a pull-off on Old Rte 61 next to a private field rd (no legal access on any of the field roads) that allows a limited view of Mound C (in a grove of trees) and a very small part of Mound B to its south. But the largest Mound A is blocked from this vantage point. It is possible to get a better view of Mound B farther down the road by walking, but no safe place to park.
Kings Crossing Mounds
Date Added: 4th Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2022. My rating: Ambience 2

Kings Crossing Mounds submitted by stonetracker on 4th Feb 2023. Artist's conception of the site. Mound A is on the right.

Log Text: Attempted to visit this site, but Mound A is apparently on private property behind some houses. Protective neighborhood dogs dissuaded me from making more of an effort. Mound C may be more accessible behind an abandoned church but I didn't have time to try. The area is very overgrown and winter may be a better time to go there.
Lake George Mounds

Log Text: All mounds are on private property, but Mounds A and B are clearly visible no more than a few 100 ft away from the car pull-off area on Satartia Rd. Mound A is right next to the road and can be viewed at close range via a short walk.
Bellows Falls Petroglyphs
Date Added: 16th Jul 2023

Bellows Falls Petroglyphs submitted by trylondm on 21st Sep 2010. Closeup of one panel

Log Text: Saw at least one set of the markings from the bridge with binoculars. The yellow paint makes them easy to spot from high up. Took one look at the access from the outcrops and decided it was a bit too steep and rugged for my taste.
Dixon Mound
Date Added: 6th Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (Great Lakes Midwest)
Visited: Yes on 1st Apr 2022. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Dixon Mound submitted by stonetracker on 6th Feb 2023. Long view of mound
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Other accounts have described access to this mound as "private" and "no trespassing." But I encountered no such issues on a recent visit. Parked in a nearby lot for town offices, walked in back and the mound was maybe 100 ft to the left in a field not far from a baseball diamond. The mound property was not posted, but the possible enclosure referred to in the description is posted as private.

Date Added: 25th Jan 2023

Country: United States (The South)

Marsden Mounds submitted by bat400 on 3rd Sep 2012. Mounds B, C, and D lie along the edge of this wood and the mowed grass plaza. They are quite low (only a few feet high) but still distinct.

Log Text: Mounds A-D mostly plowed or eroded down to nothing. I'm told E is still extant in woods but very tough to get to through the overgrowth. I gave up trying :-).
Lower Jackson

Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2021. My rating: Ambience 3

Log Text: As noted in the description, there is no public access. Just a car pull-off next to a state historic marker. The mound is quite a distance south in a farm field but can be spotted with the naked eye.
Sayler Story Mound
Date Added: 21st Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (Great Lakes Midwest)
Visited: Couldn't find on 1st Oct 2021

Sayler Story Mound submitted by stonetracker on 21st Feb 2023. The "mystery mound" as of 2010. As of 2021, I was able to find nothing resembling this at the location given. The above-ground level portion mound has either been destroyed or the location listed is incorrect. Photo: Wikipedia, Creative Commons

Log Text: Unclear whether the visible part of the mound was destroyed or the location taken from Wikipedia is wrong. But there was nothing visible.
Luthor List Mound
Date Added: 23rd Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (Great Lakes Midwest)
Visited: Yes on 1st Apr 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Luthor List Mound submitted by stonetracker on 23rd Feb 2023. Creative Commons photo from 2010. The mound is in a private field but easily viewable at distance from several streetside locations.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Regarding accessibility, the mound is now protected on a property known as the Bartley Preserve (see comments). But it can be easily viewed from several car-friendly vantage points.
One is at the end of the Mound Trail road that heads east off of Kingston Pike (CR-9) into the Kingston Mound Manor apartment complex. An even closer access point is the SE corner of the complex's parking lot. The mound is about 100 yds from the latter spot.
Calvary Cemetery Hilltop Enclosure
Date Added: 1st Mar 2023
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: United States (Great Lakes Midwest)
Visited: Yes on 1st Apr 2021. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 3 Access 1

Calvary Cemetery Hilltop Enclosure submitted by stonetracker on 1st Mar 2023. My photo from April 2022 of roughly the same area as the 1895 gully shot. The enclosure wall, if it exists, would be to the right of the fence in heavy brush on Carillon Historical Park property.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Access to both the cemetery and Carillon Historical Park is open to the public. There is a very steep trail from CHP to nearly the top of the bluff, but if there are any remains of the wall they are in a heavily overgrown, trail-less area along a ravine. It may be easier to spot in winter with less vegetation.
