Ness of Burgi submitted by PAB on 22nd Oct 2006. The Fort on the Ness of Burgi, looking west from the coastline. This Fort faces across the bay to Jarsloff and the ramparts of Tonga Fort. The Royal Commission for Ancient & Historical Monuments in Scotland (RCAHMS) describes the Fort as: "A gatehouse fort, probably datable to about 100 BC, isolated by a rampart, with a ditch on either side, cutting across the neck of the peninsula on which it stands." It is very close to the lighthouse at Echaness, which must have some of the most spectacular sea scenery in the UK.
