Maen Tarw submitted by Johnny on 10th Oct 2001. Maen Tarw Standing Stone (SN 722 833)
Maen Tarw standing stone is close to the Buwch a'r Llo stone pair (cf) but just within the forestry block, again adjacent to the road. It is a small block of unusual appearance, probably due to severe weathering over the years! Whatever function it originally served is no longer known but it may have, in some way, been linked to the Buwch a'r Llo pair.

The ore was placed on the stone and crushed by mechanically driven stamps. The continual pounding of the stamps resulted in the formation of distinctive small saucer shaped hollows. When one side was worn the mortar stone was turned over and the process started again.
