Madacombe

Madacombe submitted by thecaptain on 27th Sep 2006. Madacombe stone row, Exmoor. Its in there somewhere. Could I find anything ? No chance !!!! I found nothing at all, wading around in waist deep wet grass and heather. If there are any stones to be found here, they are well hidden under the wet moorland growth. I did however, get soaking wet and a twisted ankle for my efforts !

Culbone Hill

Culbone Hill submitted by TimPrevett on 5th Jul 2002. Culbone Hill Stone Row SS832473 Date Visited Sunday 7th May 2000 Due to the explicit request not to go off the path, I did not get much evidence of the stone row. This was maddeningly frustrating, given its imminent proximity! However, having studied the map, I went back to where the car was parked, turned left further up the track, and then left up another track, where it intersects the stone row (fenced off with barbed wire). Two stones were just visible to my left through the dense ov...

Burford Down Stone Row

Burford Down Stone Row submitted by Tom_Bullock on 9th Jul 2002. The Burford Down stone row, one of the finest in Dartmoor, shows evidence of recent damage by whatever farmer is running huge tractors across the fields. S(he) has been driving right through the rows (perpendicular to them) along several tracks. I saw evidence of at least 3 stones that had been dislodged and pushed aside by the wheels of the tractor. I don't know if there is a procedure for reporting such damage, or even if the farmer is liable for such damage. I have never, in my 12 year...

Strangely this row is aligned diagonally across the slope of the hill. It does not follow the natural contour of the downhill slope. The horizon height of the cairn from the bot...
