The Kirk Ring Cairn submitted by LivingRocks on 8th Aug 2005. The embankment of the Kirk is clearly visible just beyond the gully of Gill House Beck. Photo taken from Gunson Height 0.3miles east of the site, unfortunately straight into the late afternoon sun, resulting in the burnout over the sea in the background.

Log Text: Limited parking is available at SD 24603 81154. From here cross the road and follow the eastern side of the field boundary leading north to SD 25134 82143. From this point you can either walk straight to the row or follow the footpath to the left to SD 25134 82143 and from there walk along the footpath to the site.

Log Text: Car parking is available at SJ 07616 29378 or more secure paid for parking at SJ 07376 29504. From here take the footpath to SJ 07511 29906 and then follow it up the side of the steep slope. At the top follow the path to SJ 06047 30185 before crossing a narrow gorge and heading up the hill to the row.

Recumbent stones are shown green and those whose extent could not be determined are depicted as green circles. Only 11 stones were identified at the time of the survey but given the tiny size of some stones others may survive below the turf.

Four stones remain of this row - two of which make up gateposts - the other two are upright in the hedge that borders the road. The Outdoor Leisure North Pembrokeshire map marks only three but two further stones are located ~300m to the south east. Other stones can be seen or make up the roadside bank.

Maen Mawr submitted by AngieLake on 8th Aug 2005. This view of Maen Mawr looks north towards the even-shaped flat-topped mountain that blocks the north aspect of this lovely symmetrical valley. The larger Fan Brycheiniog mountain is out of sight to the NW of this view. Behind me is Cerrig Duon circle, overlooking the alternate E/W folds either side of the southern slopes of the valley from the semi-circular south end of this platform.

Due to the explicit request not to go off the path, I did not get much evidence of the stone row. This was maddeningly frustrating, given its imminent proximity! However, having studied the map, I went back to where the car was parked, turned left further up the track, and then left up another track, where it intersects the stone row (fenced off with barbed wire). Log Text: Limited car parking is available at SS 71410 44956 at Shallowford. From here head east along the path to SS 71818 44908 at which point turn south and follow the track to SS 72602 43860. Leave the track and head north east to the row. For some reason the area around the row was at the time of the fieldwork particularly infested with ticks. Take care.
