Log Text: As others have mentioned this stone is in a field off of Sandy Lane but the lane is so narrow it is impossible to park unless you are willing to block a farmers gate which is in use. If you wish to try, sandy lane can be accessed by leaving Woolacombe beach toward Ilfracombe on the B3343 and as you start to ascend the hill it is the narrow road on the left opposite The Red Barn Pub. Sandy Lane is not suitable for large vans/motorhomes.
Martha and I found a better way to access the stone via a footpath ascending above Combesgate Beach. The footpath starts inbetween 2 houses on The Esplanade Google Maps Ref 51.177447,-4.211722 There is parking on the esplanade if its a quiet time of year. The footpath is steep, you need to follow the signs to Seymour. The view out to Lundy is wonderful so its well worth the hike. As your climb levels out in the field above, you come across another stone which is known as 'The Konk Stone' From here head to the field gate in the right hand corner and as you approach the wall you'll see the impressive quartz stone you came for. Its known as 'The Gospel Stone' on the OS Map.
