Mynydd Rhiw Neolithic axe factory

Mynydd Rhiw Neolithic axe factory submitted by pab on 8th Feb 2009. Neolithic axe factory on Mynydd Rhiw, Lleyn Peninsular. The disturbed ground is from the 2007 excavations referred to elsewhere in these postings - having left it till now to post, I assume they will no longer show on the ground. The picture is taken looking north-east, so both Caernarfon Bay and Cardigan Bay can be seen - with Yr Eifi and its magnificent iron age settlement visible on the skyline leading towards Snowdonia.

Mynydd Carnguwch

Mynydd Carnguwch submitted by pab on 5th May 2008. As noted by Shropshire Traveller, this cairn has a certain 'photographic' attraction - due no doubt to its symmetry? Taken in October 2007 with my trusty little compact zoom camera, this picture fromt he same spot as ST's shows an enticing entrance at the left of the cairn. It must surely be worth a climb in its own right if anyone is in the area...

Museo de Arte Precolombino submitted by pab on 8th Nov 2013. NASCA figurine, 1 – 800 A.D. Although I knew the name Nasca from the famous ‘Lines’, I had not realised just how rich the rest of their culture and artefacts had been! The information plaque reads: “NASCA Classic Period 1 – 800 A.A. Feminine figurines were quite common among ancient peoples. They constitute objects of ritual and propitiatory character, as well as high symbolic value. Also noteworthy is their individual beauty resulting from the primitive design and Simplici...

Moray Terraces

Moray Terraces submitted by pab on 7th Nov 2013. Moray craters, Peru. This series of craters was a delight. On the plateau above the Urubamba river valley, there is a series of 4 terraced craters which have been shown to have pre-Inca beginnings. They are up to half a mile across, and over a hundred feet deep in places. What is really fascinating is the fact that, because of their depth and orientation, there can be a temperature difference of 15 °C (27 °F) between the bottom of the craters and the tops! The craters may have ...
