Maenau Llwydion, Llangain
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Carmarthenshire)
Visited: Yes on 15th Jun 2007

Maenau Llwydion, Llangain submitted by pab on 15th Jun 2007. Maenau Llwydion, Langain. One of a pair of monoliths reported in Coflein (NPRN 304151) as standing either side of a narrow lane - which leads to the Quoit Stone at SN38691485.
The stone pictured is on the eastern side of the lane, deeply embedded in the hedgerow. It is a very distinctive colour and texture compared to the other stones in the locality, but I am afraid I don't know its 'technical' composition.

Stone (4) on Maen Hir Farm from the east, showing its delightful curve. Other faces show signs of use as gatepost, suggesting that it has not always been in its current location.

Maen Hir Farm 1
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Carmarthenshire)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Jul 2007

Maen Hir Farm 1 submitted by pab on 22nd Jul 2007. This picture was taken, with permission, from inside the field alongside the public right of way down the track to Maen Hir Farm.
RCAHM for Wales (NPRN304268) seems to confuse this with another stone, as it refers to it as being 2.4m high...which this certainly is not - less than 1.4 would be closer, but I failed to take tape with me!

Maen Pica Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Carmarthenshire)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Jul 2007

Maen Pica Stone submitted by pab on 22nd Jul 2007. As noted by Vicki, the stone is on private land, but there is a lane which gives level and non-intrusive access to view across the field.
The 1.6m reported by RCAHM (their NPRN ref 304278) seems about right.

Capel Nebo Stone
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Carmarthenshire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jul 2007

Capel Nebo Stone submitted by pab on 23rd Jul 2007. As PaulM says, this stone does not lend itself to viewing! I aim to try and get even closer when the hedgerows are not quite so dense.
Little information available from the RCAHMW site (their ref NPRN304277), except its estimated height as being 2.4m, and its more precise location as SN13852540.

Country: Wales (Carmarthenshire)
Visited: Yes on 20th Apr 2008

Bannau Sir Gaer submitted by pab on 20th Apr 2008. As noted in RCAHMW description, many of these stones in this circle are difficult to find - especially if the grass ever gets a chance to grow!
This picture picks out the stones which were visible on our latest walk around the wonderful Carmarthen Fan circuit.
