Log Text: Well it is almost impossible to find now. We drove around for ages looking for this menhir and when we did find it we couldn't see it. Access is impossible. Barbed wire surround it on all sides and inside this enclosure is a mass of trees bushes and undergrowth.

Gray Hill circle

Gray Hill circle submitted by sem on 6th May 2013. Vandalism! The idiot who sprayed this hand-print probably thought he was being very clever and somehow "enhancing" the work of his ancestors. The sane and sensible among us will view it for what it is, graffiti. This has been reported to the relevant archaeo trust. Unfortunately I doubt the culprit will be found..... unless anyone knows of someone bragging on a social network site????

Log Text: Well I am not an archaeologist but isn't this a burial chamber? It is not the least bit circular but formed of two rows of stones down the sides with others at the ends.

Log Text: We thought at first that we would not be able to get to view the fort as there is no path indicated on the OS map and the Great House seems to be very private. However when we parked nearby we found that there is actually a marked (in Welsh) footpath which passes by two sides of the fort. There is a high hedge along most of the path but one access point into the area of the set of four ditches and mounds. The main area of the fort is not accessible and used for grazing cows. The rings are however quite impressive.

Heath Wood, Ingleby

Heath Wood, Ingleby submitted by oldman on 15th Feb 2019. You can see where the earth was dug out to form the barrows in a few places.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: This site in the Heath Wood is also known as the Danish Barrow Cemetery. A footpath leads down to the wood from the Ingleby Road. Not so easy to see the barrows as it is now a wood rather than the original grassy slope. Anyway it is a pleasant walk through the wood.

Kerbourg Dolmen 1

Kerbourg Dolmen 1 submitted by AlexHunger on 3rd Jun 2005. Very pretty 7 Meters long, 3 Meters wide downward slopping Allee Couverte, pointing South East. It has 4 large capstones. The rear appears to have a medium size chamber, while the rest appears to be the passage leading to it. It probably once had a tumulus. Saint-Lyphard.

La Maison des Feins

La Maison des Feins submitted by thecaptain on 16th Apr 2008. La Maison des Feins is about 12 metres long, but it is not much more than a metre wide or high. Truly a house for the fairies. My Dad adds scale to the fairies house, viewed here from the southeastern end.

Log Text: Another magical site. Wonderful location in a wood. Must be one of the longest and most complete allee couvert we have visited in France. So many of the capstones are in place. In a way it is good that the tumulus is gone so we can appreciate the construction.

Log Text: An interesting tumulus. It is well covered by undergrowth and ivy so it is difficult to see its construction but there are a lot of loose stones around the edges that you can see so it may be that it is stone rather than an earth mound.

La Pierre Aubrée

Date Added: 3rd Oct 2018
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2018

Log Text: These coordinates take you to the hamlet La Pierre Aubree. Talking to locals they direct you to the Menhir de Breau as the local menhir. We did search on this side of the river but access is very restricted and the bank is mostly a wall of rock. The Menhir de Breau is only a couple of hundred meters away but you have to drive about 6km to get there on the other side of the river. There is an old water mill on this side but it's now a private house. There is a very steep road down to it so there must be some level ground on this side of the river where there might be a menhir in the grounds of the house.
