Hill of Barra

Hill of Barra submitted by bobs on 29th Jan 2004. Hill of Barra Iron Age Hillfort in Aberdeenshire, which also has traces of mediaeval ridge and furrow cultivation. Access is by a track off the main Inverurie/Oldmeldrum road. The track is long and uphill all the way. Wear stout trousers if climbing to the top, because there are wicked gorse bushes all round the base, whose thorns find any way they can to scratch your legs. I know this from bitter experience! Seeing the deep ramparts of the fort and the beautiful views of the surrounding cou...

Date Added: 26th Feb 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2010. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

Forvie 'Stone Circle'

Forvie 'Stone Circle' submitted by golux on 23rd May 2010. When I visited the given location all I found was this marker confirming I was indeed at the exact spot - but there was no stone circle to be seen. Could it be that the alleged stone circle is actually one of the hut circles or cairns listed on this site? This whole area is closed from April to August to protect the birdlife so I guess I will have to have another look in wintertime.
