Date Added: 19th Mar 2012
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 13th Mar 2012

Eimstorf Steingrab submitted by Martin_L on 13th Mar 2012. View towards the western longside. North-South oriented chamber, measuring 12m by 3,3m (approx. 10m by 2m clear). It still is embedded into significant remains of the oval barrow. As it seems all orthostats are preserved, often in situ, but especially at the western long side only there tops are visible. At least 5 out of originally 7 capstones seem to be preserved, but are partly covered by earth and leaves. All remaining orthostats are slightly out of place, possibly a result of historic “e...

Bakenhus Steingrab
Date Added: 19th Mar 2012
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Nov 2011

Bakenhus Steingrab submitted by Martin_L on 23rd Nov 2011. Foreground right capstone C2 (counting from the East), centre C3.
Remains of a 25m long chambered tomb orientated NW-SE. Originally covered by 13 or 14 capstones. It is heavily damaged by explosives and only 3 capstones are completely preserved. By the time of Sprockhoff's examinations it was largely embedded into remains of the eroded barrow, but a recent excavation in 2007 revealed that most orthostats are still preserved, but deeply embedded into the ground/barrow.

Glaner Braut 4 submitted by Martin_L on 26th Nov 2011. View South along the western long side. May 2010.
The megalithic chamber originally was covered by at least 3 capstones (external size at least 7m by 3m). As it is deeply embedded into significant remains of a slightly oval barrow the ground-plan is not certain. The western long-side has preserved a row of three orthostats all in situ (W1,W2,W3) with W1 currently hardly visible. The adjacent orthostat (N) of the northern narrow-side is also preserved in situ. Other orthostats are eithe...

Drotten Helleristning submitted by Martin_L on 27th Nov 2011. Scan of diapositive taken in 1995.
Stone age rock carving situated at the western shore of river Lågen. The carvings are located at an almost vertical rock face. There are three adjacent panels mainly depicting elk. Size of the elks various between 30cm and 50cm. The site is difficult to reach when the river is flooded. The carvings nowadays are painted to ease visibility from the shoreline.

Hemmelmark Steingrab (6) submitted by Martin_L on 1st Jan 2012. View from the SE. A bizarre scenery. An extended dolmen chamber oriented South-North. The southern capstone is slightly moved, otherwise the chamber is well preserved except for the dry-walling. Large branches are broken off and fallen beside and onto the chamber others are growing low beside it. The barrow is oriented East-West. ...

Krelingen Steingrab submitted by Martin_L on 27th Jan 2012. View towards NW. January 2012
Except for the capstones this is a largely well preserved chamber with 6 orthostats on each long side (orthostat NE2 missing) . Length 9,5m (7,5m clear). The lateral entrance is located in the south-west between orthostats SW3 and SW4. When Schroller and Schwieger examined the site in 1929 the chamber was partly embedded into remains of an oval barrow with all remaining orthostats still in situ. Two capstone fragments were preserved as well. The site was excava...

Visited: Yes on 6th Mar 2012

Einen Hügelgräberfeld submitted by Martin_L on 6th Mar 2012. Part of infoboard showing groundplan.
“Einen Hügelgräberfeld” is a remarkable large bronze- and iron age barrow cemetery still consisting of 50 barrows and several long and low wall-like structures, partly adjacent to some of the bronze age barrows and probably contemporary to them. Barrows' sizes vary from 5m to 20m diameter, and 0,3m to 2m height. Situated in woodland, but partly without larger amounts of undergrowth. The site currently (2012) is signposted from the small Goldenstedt...

The small NW-SE oriented chamber was well preserved except for the capstones and the chamber-end stones and consisted of 5 pairs of orthostats when it was examined in 1929. Sprockhoff assumed a clear size of 5,5m by 1,1m. The chamber was moved here in the 1930s.

Seedorf Langbett submitted by Martin_L on 13th Mar 2012. The chambered long barrow viewed from the West. It has preserved 33 out of originally approx. 40 kerbstones, making it one of the best preserved sites in this area. The barrows' earthwork is heavily eroded and partly covered several kerbstones. Furthermore the site is largely overgrown with ivy, bushes and large oak trees. It is best visible out of growing season. Access is only possible by walk along field edges.

Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 13th Mar 2012

Barskamp Steingrab 4 submitted by Martin_L on 13th Mar 2012. From the NW. Longbarrow, oriented NW-SE, 40m by 4m. Most kerbstones are preserved, but largely fallen to barrows' outside. This seems the result of earthworks' erosion. The barrow is disintegrated down to a height of less than 40cm, which most probably is only one third or less of the original height.
