Log Text: Been meaning to visit here for many years.
Sad to say that the visit left me underwhelmed.
The invasive rhododendrons comletely covered the right hand side of the chamber. The inside of the chamber was cluttered with briars, weeds and undergrowth, making access to it nigh on impossible.
Only the portal stones and the stones on the left hand side of the chamber were visible (externally) and weed free.
This site desperately needs a bit of t.l.c.
Maybe the next visitor could take a pair of secateurs and garden gloves - they're sorely needed!

Castle Ring (Staffordshire) submitted by TimPrevett on 5th Jan 2004. Castle Ring SK045128
Looking E / NE - despite Castle Ring being the highest part of Cannock Chase, the only part with a panoramic view, looks towards (Rugeley?) Power Station!
Castle Ring was actually recommended to me by a colleague at work who does not know of my stones / pre-history interest; she grew up in the Cannock area, and given we were making a trip to Stafford anyway, I'd heard that Cannock Chase was supposed to quite nice. Knowing that she grew up there, I
asked her if Cannock...

Log Text: Been visiting this site now and again for 20 years.
After a gap of approx 5 years i visited again yesterday and was shocked to see how the site has degenerated.
I believe that the site is (was?) managed by Cannock Chase District Council -if this is still the case then they need to get up there quick,to clear back the highly invasive ferns/bracken/scrub that currently is completely overrunning/spoiling the site. The banks/ditches are currently hard to discern over the greater part of the fort. The interior is also a complete mess.
Shame as this site usually has such a great vibe to it. On today's visit you'd be hard pressed to even tell it was a hillfort.

Moel Ty Uchaf submitted by DJMace on 9th Nov 2020. Very nice example of a cairn circle in a spectacular location and well worth the hike. A straight walk up the hill along a rough track after passing through two metal gates. Continue on up and the circle is on left hand side. You won't be disappointed.

Graig Lwyd Neolithic Axe Factory submitted by TimPrevett on 8th Apr 2004. Graig Lwyd Neolithic Axe Factory sits on the extinct volcano above the North Wales coastal town of Penmaenmawr. Spectacular views abound, with panoramic views to the Tal Y Fan mountain to the south, the Great Orme to the east, and Anglesey to the west.
Access is questionable; the 'volcanic plug' from which was taken microdiorite or augite granophyre is on top of a ridge which is still being quarried on its east and north sides for rocks of different geological specifications. The outcrop can ...

Cefn Coch (Penmaenmawr) submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Apr 2004. This Circle is easily missed. As it is usually approached from Druids' Circle, it is not visible until you actually go over a slight rise just SW of the neighbouring Moelfre Stone Row / Alignment which can be mistaken as 278.
When reading descriptions of Circle 278 as a wide circular rubble bank, with fallen uprights, then coming across this (which I have missed on 2 previous visits to this area), it is unmistakeably Circle 278.
This is looking to the North East from the bank of Circle 278...
