Log Text: I was intending to visit Glenhapple Cairn but was prevented by a no admission sign. I stumbled onto Clachaneasy Bridge Cairn by accident on my GPS. The cairn is located in dense forestry N of Clachaneasy Bridge. It is probably not worth visiting unless you are some kind of cairn completist.

Log Text: I am always amazed that anyone should deliberately chose to build a dry stane dyke directly across an ancient site. To rub salt into the wounds, Bardennoch Cairn probably provided the raw materials for the dyke's constuction. That said, it is a worthwhile visit especially if you continue on to the Braidenoch Cross Slabs.

Log Text: Sometimes I almost regret my decision to visit a remote site. The ground underfoot from the edge of Knockman Wood onward was so frustrating that I am not going repeat this particular journey anytime soon.

Log Text: As with many cairns built in farmland the temptation to borrow the stones for a more practical purpose has proved too great so we are left with the footprint of the original cairn. It is easy to visit from the minor road between Newton Stewart and RSPB Wood of Cree Reserve.

Log Text: When visiting Dun Telve and Dun Troddan most people turn around but if you continue c. 1 mile to the end of the road you will drive past Balvraid Chambered Cairn and reach a path to Dun Grugaig. Balvraid Chambered Cairn is a robbed chambered cairn with a large capstone and exposed chamber.

Log Text: Even in Kilmartin Glen where one is spoiled for choice Baluachcraig Cup and Ring Marked panels are worth a visit. Easy parking plus a short walk to an ancient site rich in Rock Art: It's a no brainer!

Log Text: Cawdor Stone was easy to visit but couldn't be accessed closely due to the field being in crop at my time of visit. Fortunately the stone is relatively close to the edge of the field for photographic purposes.

Log Text: Balnacraig Cairn is on Barra, an idyllic small island in the Outer Hebrides. Balnacraig is a ruined chambered cairn on a knoll at the foot of Grianan, a substantial hill. Balnacraig Cairn has been extensively robbed leaving all but a scatter of stones and a collapsed chamber formed by large stones. The location is perhaps more impressive than the cairn itself.
A better preserved cairn Dun Bharpa can be found c. 0.5 mile NNW. I found it convenient to visit both cairns in the same trip.

This Kerb cairn in know exception, being on private land the farmer has kindly fenced it off with pubic access to severely Neolithic/Bronze age features in this field.

Log Text: I have made several visits to Ballochmyle Walls however I have not returned since 2012. I hope that the erosion of the markings has not been significant. Ballochmyle is my favourite Rock Art site due to the scale and variety of markings on the panels. I hope that it has remained relatively obscure because I feel that greater popularity of the site could hasten its demise.

This tall stone is clearly visible from the road to the north of Loch Gorm, but is hidden from view on the path leading in from Saligo Bay. It's worth the walk. There's a second smaller stone in the next square, just visible in the left-hand side of this shot below a rocky outcrop.

Log Text: Ballinaby 1 is unsignposted off a minor road N of Loch Gorm. There is a lay-by c. 200 yards W of Ballinaby farm. Walk up the farm road to a gate, head NNW towards a junction of dry stane dykes. Ballinaby 1 is c. 50 yards SW from here adjacent to the N side of the dyke. Ballinaby 2 lies c.350 yards NNE of Ballinaby 1 across rough ground.
Ballinaby 1 is one of the most striking standing stones I have ever visited. The apparent fragility of this tall thin slab is belied by its survival despite being exposed to Islay's wild weather for millennia.
Ballinaby 2 is less impressive in its current state though it may have been as tall as Ballinaby 1 originally.

Log Text: Ballakelly Chambered Cairn is in a field on the right hand side of the A25 from Douglas. There is a narrow gate to park in on a sharp corner at Ballakelly Farm. The stones are surrounded by a fence with a gate for access. The chamber and its immediately surrounding stones are impressive but the random circle of stones on the fence perimeter dilute the authenticity of the site.

Log Text: Ballagory Horned Cairn is easy to visit. It is situated beside a minor road with a lay-by, surrounded by a low stone wall. There is a style to climb into the enclosure denying disabled access.

Log Text: Bain's Hill is easy to visit with a good view over Turnberry Golf Course towards Ailsa Craig. Lunch at the Malin Court is also a good reason to stop.

Log Text: Baliehill Fort is located between Lockerbie and Langholm in a rural setting. It is situated atop a steep climb up Camp Hill from a lay-by at NY 25315 90657. The remnants of the forts defenses are visible on the slope of the hill but the enclosures are relatively featureless.

Bagbie Four Poster submitted by PaulM on 29th Oct 2002. This is a small four poster with stones no larger than 1.2m in height. It stands on the NE edge of a cairn and only three or four metres from a similarly sized stone pair. The grid reference is NX49815642.
This area is right on the edge of OS Explorer Map 311 (Wigtown, Whithorn & The Machars) and full navigation will require the next map over (Map 312 - Kirkcudbright & Castle Douglas).

Standing Stone of Bagbie submitted by vicky on 29th Oct 2002. This single standing stone sits in a field at NX498562 but to the south of, and part of, a complex containing a cairn, four poster stone circle and stone pair.
The Standing Stone of Bagbie is blade-like (as many of the standing stones in this area are) and has no formal access although it can be seen from the lane that runs from the A75(T) in a NE direction in to the hills towards Cambret.
