Scrahanard Standing Stone submitted by Klingon on 8th Apr 2005. Standing stone SMR co059-101/02
Stone - subrectangular in plan, with packing-stones exposed at base; long axis ENE-WSW. Some have been shown to mark prehistoric burials while others may have had a commemorative or ritual function, or served as boundary markers or position posts along ancient routeways. Many of the examples have their long axis north-east/south-west suggesting a close affinity with stone rows and pairs, and therefore a probable Bronze Age date.
