There is a theory that dolmens (or quoits as they are known in Cornwall) were not totally covered in earth but the capstones were left uncovered and were a copy of the horizon. I have manipulated the tones in this shot to show this, but no shapes have been altered.

Holy Well (Lanhydrock) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 17th Oct 2006. The wellhouse is probably Victorian but the spring is shown on the Lanhydrock Land Atlas of 1695.
Lanhydrock, by definition, means the site of somebody called Hydroc. Since 1478 it has been widely thought that the little understood Sanctus Ydroc (St Hydroc) was the patron saint of the present 15th century church. St Guron's Well House submitted by KiwiBetsy on 4th Oct 2006. St Guron’s Well lies a short distance from the wellhouse at the foot of the steps that lead up to St Petroc’s Church. The water runs from the mouths of two gargoyles and falls into a trough. The date 1545 is carved into the stonework.

This well is very easy to access, provided you know where it is. It is found directly on the corner of the road, you can park here and the well is located on this exact spot.

Addingham cross submitted by nicoladidsbury on 15th Mar 2005. Near the entrance stands a well preserved Anglo-Saxon hammer-head cross, with four holes and carved scrolls (right).
In the porch of the Church is a Viking hog-back tombstone, two parts of a 14th Century Viking cross, and two coffin lids decorated with early Christian emblems

In the churchyard at Irton is the ancient Irton Cross, which stands 10 feet high and was erected in the early 9th Century, before the Viking invasions. Pevsner declares that this is one of the most important crosses in Cumbria, and unlike the one at Gosforth, bears no figures either human or animal. It contains vine scrolls and rosettes of Irish origin.

Edenhall Cross (Langwathby) submitted by Anne T on 6th Apr 2018. First view of the cross from the lane leading from Edenhall village to St. Cuthbert's Church. The River Eden runs 250 metres east of the cross. St. Cuthbert's church is 230m south east of the cross. The base looks very old, whereas the cross and shaft and head look as if they have been newly made, even though they were placed here in the 19th century.
