Holy Well (Lanhydrock) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 17th Oct 2006. The wellhouse is probably Victorian but the spring is shown on the Lanhydrock Land Atlas of 1695.
Lanhydrock, by definition, means the site of somebody called Hydroc. Since 1478 it has been widely thought that the little understood Sanctus Ydroc (St Hydroc) was the patron saint of the present 15th century church. In the churchyard at Irton is the ancient Irton Cross, which stands 10 feet high and was erected in the early 9th Century, before the Viking invasions. Pevsner declares that this is one of the most important crosses in Cumbria, and unlike the one at Gosforth, bears no figures either human or animal. It contains vine scrolls and rosettes of Irish origin.

Kerluir dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 19th Feb 2011. Theres a big mound here on top of a hillock, to the east of the Kerluir menhir, but its all covered with gorse and blackthorn. However, there is a way through, and somewhere in the middle can be found this tiny little dolmen, which consists of a capstone sitting on two sidestones, with a few other stones in the vicinity.

View of the Kermario Dolmen which is right at the southwest corner of the Kermario Alignements, and right in the corner of the road which skirts the site.
This picture was taken in 1987 when people were free to wander amongst the stones as they pleased. The terrible erosion caused by all the visitors is only too obvious.

Lligwy Burial Chamber submitted by Jimwithnoname on 8th Sep 2011. Amazing dolmen and very unnerving sat underneath the 25 ton capstone. It's perched on very little it seems on the one side. The warden approached us as we sat eating at the site. He asked if we were thinking of stopping the night, which we were, but as he said. that's a no no. We respected him and moved on after our picnic. He was quite pleasant and only doing his job. Many people wild camp as he said, and set fire to crops or drive through hedges!

Log Text: It's a steep climb whether your walking or driving but well worth the effort. If you can find the youth hostel at the top of the hill your almost there. Keep going up the track until you see a single standing stone, and just ahead on the right is this magnificent dolmen.
