Dolmen du Pech (Cazals) submitted by thecaptain on 17th Jan 2006. Subject of an excavation in 1989, and reconstruction in 1992, this box tomb is now fenced in, presumably for protection, but it looks terribly ugly because of that.
The odd thing about this dolmen is the rectangular stone mound it is contained within, which has been subject to a perhaps over-enthusiastic reconstruction.

As usual the orthostats are slightly inclined towards the chamber, but due to erosion of the earthwork the eastern chamber endstones' inclination increased significantly. The capstones C2 and C3 are robbed otherwise the chamber is well preserved. Especially the western third of the chamber and the passage section are in very good condition. April 2010

The chamber is located just east of barrows' center and visible near the center of the picture. Only the eastern end-stone and the adjacent orthostat of the northern long-side are preserved in situ. Hence the original size of the chamber is unknown. According to the size of the pit resulting from destruction it may have had 2 or 3 capstones. Steinfeld Steingrab 2 submitted by AlexHunger on 1st May 2006. This relatively compact Alee Couverte consists of 8 uprights while 2 out of 3 cap stones survive. A fragment of the 3rd lies just beside the tomb. Archeologists presume the former tumulus was surrounded by kerbstones.
The site has been restored since Sprockhoff's survey in the 1930s.
