Fossa Sanguinis submitted by Creative Commons on 26th Aug 2017. The Fossa Sanguinis is supposed to be an ancient temple in Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany). Grotenbach

Grotenbach submitted by Harald_Platta on 23rd Aug 2017. The Grotenbach is a well and small stream in Witten (North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany). Its name might connect it to the Germanic god Odin. The area is hardly accessible in the summer months because of the dense vegetation. The picture shows the Grotenbach a few meters downstream of the well exit, which lies near the houses on the left side of the picture. The streambed is indicated by the relatively free space in the middle of the picture. The photo was taken in August 2017. © Platta ...

Oppidum Ubiorum submitted by Harald_Platta on 14th Aug 2017. The Oppidum Ubiorum was a settlement by the Germanic tribe of the Ubii (19 BC). It represents the oldest predecessor settlement of today`s Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany). The only visibel remaining part is the Ubiermonument (“monument of the Ubii“). The tuff stonework of this square stone tower is still preserved up to 6.50 m high. It was most likely the harbour tower or a fortification of the city wall. The Ubiermonument can be visited in an underground museum hall. © P...

Wanna Huegelgrab 6

Wanna Huegelgrab 6 submitted by Andreas on 6th Oct 2010. Distant view, approximately from SouthSouthwest, to the overgrown barrow. The meadow between the road (Postweg) and the barrow usually is frequented by model airplanes, with the result that my visit almost caused a panic among their pilots. Especially the local groundsman was (loudly) concerned about my health, shouting something about danger and past accidents. But obviously the missiles have missed me ... (photo from September 2010)

Wanna Steingrab (11b) submitted by Andreas on 23rd Sep 2009. The reconstructed tomb at Osterwanna: Due to the threat of sinking into the marshy soil the remains of the tomb were transferred to Wanna. Here the chamber was reconstructed. The recent localisation is close to the school at Osterwanna, a few meters north of the Landesstraße (L 118), about 100 meters west of the sports field. The reconstruction shows a "5 yokes-chamber", consisting of 5 capstones, 10 supporting stones at the long sides and 2 further uprights at the narrow sides. There's...
