Gräberfeld von Ense-Bremen submitted by Harald_Platta on 5th Jun 2015. The most striking discovery made at the cemetery Ense-Bremen was a grave from the Merovingian period (ca. 500 – 750 AC). It was 20m long and consisted of two round enclosures that were interconnected. Therefore, the complex had the shape of an „8“ or, alternatively, of the eternity symbol.

Berghofer Wald Huegelgrab 1 submitted by Harald_Platta on 6th Jun 2015. Berghofer Wald Huegelgrab 1 was a round barrow in Schwerte (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). It was surrounded by a stone circle and contained a stone packing (Steinpackung) in its interior. On these stones, cremated human remains were found.
The barrow was destroyed in 1976.

A memorial stone was placed on its top with information about the excavation of the barrow in 1935. The round barrow still measures 9-10m and is 1m high.

Like nearly all other dead of the Sengkofen LBK (Linear Pottery Culture) cemetery, the man of grave No. 24 is lying on his left side with flexed feet. A stone axe was buried with him as a grave good. The piece of deer horn near his hips had belonged to his clothing.

The depicted side of the stone displays a bay tree.
This photo was taken of a replica shown during the special exhibition „Werdendes Ruhrgebiet“ in the Ruhr Museum Essen.
The original stone can be seen in the St. Willibrord church in Rindern.
