Istanbul Archaeological Museum submitted by h_fenton on 2nd Oct 2007. The 'Alexander Sarcophagus', it gets it name from a scene on it that depicts 'Alexander the Great' winning a victory over the Persians. The sarcophagus came from the 'Royal Necropolis of Sidon' in what is now Lebanon and was made in the last quarter of the 4thcenturyBC (325-300BC). there is some argument amongst scholars about who's sarcophagus it was but the traditional view is that it belonged to King Abdalonymos of Sidon.

There appears to be some sort of square structure based around a courtyard, possibly with robbed out walls which have been excavated (leaving narrow straight linear trenches) also looks like some of the cells around the courtyard have been excavated.
Anyone know any more?

The largest bowl barrow at Scrubbity Barrows. covered in brambles. when i visited the site in jan/feb 2002 the largest barrow (pictured) was the only barrow accessable, the other bowl barrows lay on the other side of a deer fence in an area which was immensly overgrown with regerating plants and trees after being coppiced.

Judging from the patterns of weathering on the top of the stone it has been clipped by the hedge cutter a number of times although it looks like the overall height of the stone has not been reduced by more than a couple of centimetres.
at some stage in the history of this stone a piece of iron has been inserted and held in place with some lead the iron has been broken off and has become very corroded, it is too small to be a gate hinge. careful examination of the...
