Log Text: Visited this site in the morning with strong low sunlight which was fantastic for showing up the cup and ring marks. I stayed for a while as the sun rose, highlighting further cup and ring marks. Unfenced out in the field a short distance to the west of the main group a few more ring marks were visible where the grass has worn away.
With the permission of the farmer, I flew my kite here to take some aerial photographs of the rock art. There were a couple of cows in the field but they were only mildly interested in what I was doing.

King Arthur's Round Table submitted by h_fenton on 1st Oct 2010. King Arthur's Round Table.
I tried to fly the kite here but the wind was too inconsistent to safely get the camera high enough. Here instead of a kite I used a carp fishing pole, with a camera attachment on the end to lift my camera higher (6-7 metres).

Knock Rock Art (1) submitted by h_fenton on 1st Oct 2010. Knock 1. below the Gavin Maxwell otter memorial.
A week or so before the autumn equinox shortly after sunrise a finger like shadow of the piece of rock on the outcrop passed right through the centre of the cup and ring mark. Because the light was low it was difficult to effectively photograph.
I waited until the sun was a little higher and brighter then I put my finger close to the lump on the rock that casts the shadow - to indicate the shadow across the circle. At one point the end...

Poseidonia Temple of Hera submitted by h_fenton on 6th Feb 2008. Temple of Hera, this is the oldest temple at Poseidonia / Paestum built from around 550BCE in the doric style.
The interior is split into two naves and with the absence of any religious features this led early historians and archaeologists to suggest that this may be a civil building possibly Roman in date, this led to the temple becoming known as the Basilica. An alter was later discovered just outside the temple, futher discoveries were made of terracotta statues and other offerings which...
