Millstreet Country Park

Site Type: Museum
Country: Ireland (Republic of) (Co. Cork)

Millstreet Country Park submitted by Andy B on 19th Mar 2010. I suppose that Millstreet Country Park should be described as a theme park, its theme being the wildlife, archeology and history of the area. It must be unique in that its entrance is around 390m up a mountain. After you enter, you must drive around 2Km and drop about 180m to reach the visitor centre. The photo shows a recreated crannóg, a prehistoric dwelling on an artificial island, just one of the delights of this wonderful place.

Cailleach Beara submitted by Runemage on 11th Mar 2011. I'd only just passed through the gate when my sandal broke after a few steps, so I continued barefoot. The atmosphere there that day was feminine, gentle and enfolding. It was of an intensity I've only experienced at a few other sites, Cailleach in her aspect of Mother, warm gentle and nurturing.
From the first sight of her, which is the view in this image, I could instantly see where the legend had arisen of her waiting on the shore for her lover Manannan Mac Lir to return. She does look like...

Caherbaroul Pair submitted by KiwiJon on 7th Nov 2007. A pair of magnificent stones in a commanding position high above the valley. Each one must be at least 8 feet high. The nearby fort is visible for miles. There is also a tiny cross slab located a couple of hundred metres further downhill and up a short farm track to the right.

Beenalaght submitted by KenWilliams on 15th Dec 2005. An Seisear, a very impressive row of stones located across a long field on the road from Coachford to Mallow. They are hard to spot now due to a pine plantation which the stones almost blend into when viewed from the road.
